The Denver Broncos might be 8-2 and sitting atop the AFC West, but quarterback Bo Nix knows the offense canât keep relying on the defense forever.Â
As NFL.com noted, after Thursday nightâs sluggish 10-7 win over the Las Vegas Raiders, Nix didnât mince words about where things stand.Â
âWe have to do better,â Nix said bluntly after the game. âAt some point, 10 points isnât going to be enough. We have to score more.â
âBetween penalties and just some sluggish football, we’re just not playing very well. It starts with me. I have to be better. Then the rest of the guys will follow along. We have to find some juice somewhere.â
Despite boos raining down from the home crowd, Nix downplayed the reaction, saying, âIâve been booed before, and Iâll be booed again.âÂ
His message was clear: the Broncos may be winning, but the offenseâs stagnant production wonât hold up much longer.
Offensive Struggles vs. Raiders
Thursday nightâs win over the 2-7 Raiders was as ugly as it gets in a win.Â
Denverâs offense generated just 220 total yards and 10 first downs, turned the ball over twice, and went three-and-out seven times.
Nix completed 16 of 28 passes for 150 yards, with one touchdown and two interceptions, finishing with a 54.2 passer rating.Â
He didnât contribute much on the ground either and failed to find a rhythm all night.
The offense opened the game with four straight three-and-outs and just looked dysfunctional from the start.Â
The drive where the Broncos took a 10-7 lead was symbolic of the entire night of offensive struggles.Â
The Broncos took over at the Raidersâ 12-yard line after a blocked punt, moved backward two yards in three plays, and settled for a short Wil Lutz field goal to seal the 10-7 win.Â
Denverâs performance put them in rare company for all the wrong reasons.
According to NFL Research, the Broncos became just the third team since 2000 to win a game despite scoring 10 or fewer points, having 10 or fewer first downs, and committing two or more turnovers.Â
Teams with that stat line were 2-202 before Thursday.
Broncos Outlook: Winning Ugly Wonât Last Forever
While the Broncos have now won seven straight games, their longest streak since 2015, they know their offensive issues could catch up to them soon.
âYou have to understand that itâs the NFL,â Nix said. âSeven wins in a row are hard to come by.â
âSo youâre doing something right, but at the same time, youâre also doing something wrong because thereâs plenty left on the table.â
Denverâs elite defense has carried them throughout the season, but their offensive identity continues to remain uncertain.
The Broncos lead the AFC West by two games over the Chargers and three over the Chiefs, yet their offensive struggles signal this divisional race may be much closer than it seems on paper.Â
The Broncos are the first team in the NFL to reach eight wins, but their success will not last if they canât find improvement on offense.
