Boston Celtics Get Positive Injury Update on Jaylen Brown

The Boston Celtics are one of the teams in the NBA with the most turnover from last season. They are down three starters from last year’s team. Jrue Holiday is playing well in Portland, while Kristaps Porzingis has yet to play in Atlanta.

Jaylen Brown has turned into the number one option for Boston with Jayson Tatum still recovering from a torn Achilles. Brown has had injury concerns of his own, as he was listed as probable in Boston’s last game against the Cavs with left hamstring reconditioning. Brown played in that game.

Ahead of the Celtics’ matchup with the 76ers, the Celtics got some positive news on Brown. Brown is off the injury report and will play against Philly without any restrictions, according to Noa Dalzell of Celtics CLNS.

The Boston Celtics Will Have Jaylen Brown vs. 76ers

For most of last season, Brown played through a knee injury that clearly hampered his performance. In the playoffs last season, Brown talked about how the injury was affecting his level of play during last year’s playoff run.

“Obviously, it’s tough the way we went out like tonight, but the way we finished the year, personally, the way I finished the year, persevering through some physical stuff that I was battling through, I’m proud of our group.”

Brown had offseason knee surgery to address the issue, and he hasn’t had problems with that knee yet this season. He has had some hamstring problems, but that hasn’t seemed to affect his level of play too much this season. Now, those hamstring issues might finally be fixed.

The Celtics are 2-3 to start the season, which is better than most NBA pundits thought they would start with so many new faces on the roster. Brown has taken his game to a new level as the top scoring option, putting up 26.8 points per game.

The Celtics Will Continue to Fight For a Playoff Spot

Joe Mazzulla has made it clear that this will not be a gap year for the Celtics without Tatum. Before the season, he talked with reporters about his expectations for the season.

“Make sure the guys know their jobs, know what they’re supposed to do. The priority is just get guys to play and evaluate where we’re at and where we need to get better.”

Philadelphia will enter this matchup as one of the surprising teams in the NBA. They are 4-0 and tied for one for the top spot in the Eastern Conference with the Chicago Bulls. If Boston is going to take down the undefeated 76ers, they need Brown to play at his best.

The Celtics will continue to lean on Brown as the top option for the entirety of this season, even if Tatum returns. It would be foolish for the Celtics to put undo pressure on Tatum when he returns from this serious injury, especially if Boston is not in a position to make the playoffs.

Brown is hoping to keep this team in a position to play in the postseason.
