As MLB’s hot stove season starts to ramp up, the Winter Meetings have begun, and big movement is expected across the league over the next few days. For the Atlanta Braves, GM Alex Anthopoulos needs to take the next couple of days to plot a potential move, which can come in a multitude of ways.
With the Winter Meetings marking the unofficial start of the offseason, now would be a great time for the Braves to make a splash and prove a point to their NL East foes, who will certainly be active throughout the week.

Braves Urged to Trade for Freddy Peralta
This may be far-fetched, but Milwaukee Brewers‘ starter Freddy Peralta has gained some trade attention over the past few weeks. It’s unclear if the Brewers actually want to move on from him, but he’s under his final year of team control, and this offseason may be the best time to get value out of him.
Milwaukee has been known to trade some of its top players before having to sign them (Corbin Burnes).
Braves writer Nick Halden recently proposed that Atlanta should trade for Freddy Peralta at the winter meetings:

“With this in mind, there is no question that the Braves and general manager Alex Anthopoulos should use the next days to focus on finding a potential deal with the Milwaukee Brewers for star pitcher Freddy Peralta, who has been one of the biggest names involved in ongoing trade rumors.”
Peralta has solidified himself as a true ace over the past few seasons. He’s punched out 200+ batters in three straight seasons, and he might be coming off his best season as a pro. In 2025, Peralta posted a 2.70 ERA over 176.2 innings.Â
What Would Atlanta Give Up to Acquire Peralta?
Acquiring Freddy Peralta would require giving up a haul. The Braves would likely have to offload young pitcher Hurston Waldrep or top prospects in either JR Ritchie or Alex Lodise.
The Braves battled injuries to their rotation for the entirety of 2025. Six of their starters endured IL stints of six or more weeks. Freddy Peralta is a proven, durable arm. He’s made 30+ starts in three straight seasons.
Atlanta could also consider giving up a name like Grant Holmes. Holmes may be more enticing to Milwaukee, considering his service time.
If reports surface that the Brewers are serious about moving on from Peralta, Atlanta seems like a reasonable landing spot, and Alex Anthopoulos should pull the trigger on this blockbuster trade.
