One of the hottest New York Jets trade commodities ahead of the NFL deadline is running back Breece Hall.
Hall bluntly told the media in London this week that if it were up to him, he wouldn’t be going anywhere.
“I’m here, I want to be here, I love being a New York Jet,” Hall responded.
“Yeah, this is probably like my fifth month dealing with this now [the trade rumors]. At this point, it is what it is … At the end of the day, I don’t control what goes on, I only control what I do on the field and how I handle my business off the field. So for me, it’s all about servicing my teammates and coaches the best way I can and letting God handle everything else. Every day I come out and I’m servicing my teammates and coaches glorifying God and letting whatever happens after that,” Hall explained.
Insider Shares Latest Intel on Potential Hall Trade
Hall, 24, is in the final year of his $9 million rookie contract.
ESPN’s Rich Cimini revealed that Hall is “eighth in total scrimmage yards, which should make him attractive to contending teams. He’s been the subject of trade rumors since the draft, and they will only intensify.”
Hall is seventh in the NFL in rushing yards (351) and is seventh in the NFL in receiving yards among running backs (150), per ESPN.
Complicated Factors in a Potential Hall-Jets Trade
“The Braelon Allen situation — he will miss at least two months with a knee injury — complicates matters at running back. If the Jets deal Hall, they’d leave themselves perilously thin,” Cimini explained.
There is a chance that Allen could miss the entire season. Allen is on injured reserve.
Putting Hall aside, the Jets have three other running backs on the 53-man roster: Isaiah Davis, Kene Nwangwu, and Khalil Herbert. The team also has Avery Williams on the practice squad.
“Unless it’s a player-for-player swap, bringing back, say, a starting wide receiver, a Hall trade would signal to the locker room they’re giving up on the season,” Cimini said.
Hall is one of the Jets’ best players on offense. He is dynamic, can run the ball, and catch it out of the backfield. Without him, defenses wouldn’t have a running back that they’d have to prepare for out of the backfield in game planning.
However, if the Jets refuse to trade him, “they risk losing him in the offseason as a free agent,” Cimini noted.
That happened a couple of months ago for the Jets. They had opportunities to trade starting cornerback D.J. Reed away, but they rebuffed those talks. Fast forward to the offseason, Reed signed a massive three-year $48 million contract with the Detroit Lions.
They were projected to receive a compensatory 2026 fourth-round pick for that loss. However, it was canceled out when the team signed quarterback Justin Fields to a two-year $40 million contract, per Over The Cap.
Instead of securing something at the deadline, they ended up losing him for nothing during the offseason. If the Jets don’t deal Hall, they risk that same thing happening again.
