Ally McCoist says Brendan Rodgers will ‘undoubtedly’ get a Premier League job ‘in February or March’ after he resigned as Celtic manager.

Rodgers, 52, left the Scottish champions after a disappointing start to the season which left Celtic eight points behind Heart of Midlothian.

The former Liverpool and Leicester boss returned to Celtic in June 2023 and led the club to successive titles to go with his league triumphs from 2017 and 2018.

Following his resignation, Celtic major shareholder Dermot Desmond accused Rodgers of ‘divisive, misleading, and self-serving’ behaviour.

‘Regrettably, his words and actions have been divisive, misleading, and self-serving,’ Desmon said in a shocking statement.

‘They have contributed to a toxic atmosphere around the club and fuelled hostility towards members of the executive team and the board.

‘What has failed recently was not due to our structure or model, but to one individual’s desire for self-preservation at the expense of others.’

Scottish football legend McCoist does not expect Rodgers’ dramatic exit to harm his future prospects and believes he will be back in the Premier League early next year after ‘a good break’.

McCoist even mentioned Rodgers in the same breath as West Ham amid their dismal start to the season.

The Hammers’ shocking form cost Graham Potter his job at the London Stadium but their struggles have continued under Nuno Espirito Santo.

‘Brendan Rodgers will be back in the Premier League,’ McCoist confidently told talkSPORT BET. ‘I don’t think there’s any doubt about that.

‘His record as a manager and coach suggests he’s more than capable of going back to England and getting a club in the top flight.

‘We’re maybe taking our eye off the wall for a second and forgetting about his record. His record at Celtic has been very good so you have to take that into account as well.

‘The way things have ended has left a bad taste in people’s mouths, it has been very sour and unfortunate but that, in no way shape or form, should cloud the job he’s done. He’s been very successful.

‘We’ve got to give someone like Nuno time as he’s only three or four games in but West Ham are in trouble.

‘If I were a West Ham fan now, I’d be concerned. Things have to change quickly to be brutally honest but Nuno will be given a good chance.

‘Nothing will happen with Brendan until well into the New Year. I’d be staggered. He’ll take a good break, come back and then jump on the managerial merry-go-round in around February or March.

‘That’s when I think we’ll see him again.’

Ex-Celtic boss Martin O’Neill has taken over the club on an interim basis following Rodgers’ departure.

O’Neill, 73, managed Celtic from 2000-05, winning three Scottish Premier League titles, three Scottish Cups, and a League Cup.
