The McLaren driver trails his teammate Oscar Piastri by 15 points and will start the race in third behind his F1 title rival and polesitter Max Verstappen.
Fellow home favourites George Russell and Sir Lewis Hamilton line-up fourth and fifth on the grid, with very little separating McLaren, Red Bull, Mercedes and Ferrari this weekend.
