Brock Purdy a ‘Rising’ Top QB Option in Fantasy Football for 2025

The chaotic 2024 campaign for the San Francisco 49ers derailed some of the momentum that QB Brock Purdy managed to establish throughout the first two years of his career. Despite the down season, the organization still felt confident enough in the Iowa State product to give him a massive five-year contract extension worth up to $265 million this offseason.

Well, the 49ers’ front office aren’t the only ones optimistic about Purdy becoming a top quarterback in 2025 with NFL analyst naming him a rising QB1 option for upcoming fantasy football drafts this season.

Is 49ers QB Brock Purdy Primed for a Bounce-Back Year in 2025?

Shawn Childs of Sports Illustrated isn’t willing to let one down season sour his outlook on Brock Purdy’s fantasy football upside entering the 2025 NFL season.

“Brock Purdy enters 2025 fantasy football as a rising QB1, offering upside in the 49ers’ explosive offense,” wrote Childs. “Purdy missed Week 12 with a right shoulder injury, and he sat out the final game of the year with an elbow issue. His passing opportunity (30.3 passes per game) rose by 8.3% while remaining well below the league average. He was on pace to pass for 4,379 yards and 23 touchdowns, with the latter falling below expectations. Purdy passed for over 300 yards in five matchups (319/1, 353/2, 325/2, 313/2, and 377/3), with his day in fantasy points coming in Week 17 (36.05). He scored over 20.00 fantasy points in 60% of his starts.”

This paints an encouraging picture of Purdy’s ability to stay productive while the offense was at less than 100% percent, but Childs did touch on how injuries to both Brandon Aiyuk and Christian McCaffrey impacted his on-field production early in 2024.

Childs added, “Christian McCaffrey and Brandon Aiyuk injuries, paired with a regression season for Deebo Samuel, led to Purdy seeing a downtick in his completion rate (65.9%) while continuing to make big plays (8.5 yards per pass attempt with 12 completions gaining at least 40 yards). He set career highs in rushes (65), rushing yards (323), and rushing touchdowns (5), adding another level to his fantasy value.”

How Could the Injuries to Brandon Aiyuk and Jauan Jennings Impact His Production in 2025?

This brings us along to what could feel like deja vu to both Purdy and fantasy managers alike with Brandon Aiyuk and Jauan Jennings dealing with injuries entering the 2025 NFL season.

Unfortunately, Deebo Samuel is no longer on the roster to rely on, which could make Ricky Pearsall the lone standing option to competently lead this WR room to start the season.

Jason Katz of Pro Football Sports Network wrote, “At the same time, Purdy’s weapons are far more uncertain. George Kittle remains his most trusted option, especially as Brandon Aiyuk recovers from ACL reconstruction. Deebo Samuel Sr. is gone — although to be fair, that’s addition by subtraction, at least based on the guy we saw last season. It remains to be seen whether Jauan Jennings and/or Ricky Pearsall can step up over a full season. And, of course, McCaffrey needs to stay healthy.”

Purdy has proven he is a quality NFL quarterback even when the table isn’t set perfectly for him at every position around him, but can he be an elite fantasy option when the WR room is entering the year banged up? The answer to that question isn’t quite as definitive at this moment.
