Broncos Cut Rookie Offensive Lineman Ahead of Chiefs Game

The Broncos released rookie offensive tackle Marques Cox from their practice squad Tuesday, the team announced.

The 6-foot-5, 305-pound Cox signed with Denver this spring after going undrafted out of Kentucky. He failed to make the initial 53-man roster but rejoined the team in October via the practice squad.

In addition to parting ways with Cox, the Broncos also placed linebacker Karene Reid on injured reserve and waived wide receiver Michael Bandy.

The AFC West-leading Broncos will carry an 8-2 record into Sunday’s game against the Chiefs.

Cox Was a Fixture at Tackle in College

Cox started 59 games over six seasons in college between stops at Northern Illinois (2019-22) and Kentucky (2023-24). In his final year with the Wildcats, the Peoria, Ill., native totaled a team-high 21 knockdown blocks and was named to the Reese’s Senior Bowl Watch List.

A pre-draft scouting report by NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein described Cox as having “adequate size and good length” while noting that his “footwork and body control can be a mess at times.”

Cox was with Denver in training camp and through the preseason. Waived in August as part of final roster cuts, he was brought back ahead of Week 8 following a tryout.

Veteran Lineman Signed Off Cowboys’ Practice Squad

As part of a busy day of transactions for Denver, veteran offensive tackle Geron Christian was signed off the Cowboys’ practice squad and elevated to the active roster.

Christian, a 2018 third-round pick out of Louisville, has appeared in 63 games with 25 starts in his NFL career. He played five games with the Rams and Broncos in 2024 before joining Dallas’ practice squad in August. He has not appeared in a game this season.

Christian is currently listed as the backup left tackle to Garett Bolles, who starts opposite Matt McGlinchey. Matt Peart, another reserve tackle, landed on IR last month after tearing his MCL in a Week 6 win over the Jets in London.
