The Denver Broncos are in the market for wide receiver help for Bo Nix before the 2025 trade deadline, and they have inroads with a rival that could help facilitate a deal.
Broncos head coach Sean Payton is open to doing something.
Exactly what that move will be, or how far the Broncos are willing to go to make something happen, remains unclear. Still, there is increasing evidence that the Broncos will make efforts to address their desire for a proven wide receiver option to help their young QB, Nix.
Insider Delivers Good News for Broncosâ Trade Deadline Plans
GettyDenver Broncos head coach Sean Payton looks on before a game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
ESPNâs Adam Schefter reported that the Broncos are among the teams that he expects will be in play for receiver help before the trade deadline, which is on November 4 at 4 p.m. ET. The insider also offered an encouraging follow-up to that about a rival team.
The New Orleans Saints, Paytonâs former team, have several receivers who could appeal to the Broncos before the deadline.
Chris Olave may not be available, but Brandin Cooks and Rasheed Shahid could be.
âIâm still counting and waiting on deals for wide receivers. Weâve got the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Buffalo Bills, the Denver Broncos, other teams that have made calls about wide receivers,â Schefter said on âThe Adam Schefter Podcastâ on October 28, noting the Saintsâ cache of WRs.
âI think at least one at least one will be dealt. And if I had to bet, I would say Rashid Shaheed is the guy that interests most teams for his speed, and his talent, and the guy whose contract is up after this year, who the Saints, I think, would be most willing to part with if the compensation were fair and right. I think the Saints are going to want to keep Chris Olave. Brandin Cooks could be traded for the fifth time in his 12 NFL seasons. So again, between Shaheed and Cooks, potentially at least one, maybe two Saints wide receivers, who are traded.â
This is a growing pattern for the Broncos, who have future cap space and a full war chest of draft picks to use in a trade.
Payton downplayed the urgency of the Broncos making a move, but said he was open to one.
âYeah, at some point,â Payton told reporters on October 12. âWe would always pay attention to what we might be looking for, and I think we have time to do that. But Iâm not thinking about that right now.â
Buzz Growing Around Broncos WR Trade

CBS Sportsâ Jonathan Jones also reported on the Broncosâ interests in wide receivers before the trade deadline.
âPerhaps the biggest contender for a receiver is not the Steelers but instead the Broncos. Courtland Sutton is 30-years-old and just signed a four-year extension with an out after next season. Denver has all of its picks through the fifth round and added a fourth from the Saints in the preseason,â Jones wrote on October 23.
âThe Broncos are 5-2 with a top-ranked defense and a quarterback on his rookie deal for at least another season. Folks around the league are watching the Broncos to see how aggressive they may be.â
The Broncos have a plethora of young wideouts opposite WR1 Courtland Sutton and tight end Evan Engram, who Nix described as the second option in the passing game.
Nix has preexisting chemistry with Troy Franklin, his former Oregon teammate.
He has also grown his rapport with All-Pro return man Marvin Mims and rookie Pat Bryant. The Broncos could be inclined to hold off on any moves before the trade deadline, despite rumors of their interest in outside help.
Broncos Trade Pitch Lands Saints WR Rashid Shaheed
GettyRashid Shaheed #22 of the New Orleans Saints celebrates a touchdown against the San Francisco 49ers.
This Heavy Sports Broncos trade pitch would bring Shaheed to Denver, sending a selection the Broncos received from an earlier trade sending Devaughn Vele to New Orleans.
Broncos get:
- Rashid Shaheed
Saints get:
- 2026 fourth-round pick (via NO)
Shaheed has 39 receptions for 431 yards and 2 touchdowns this season.
He would provide a proven deep threat for the Broncos, though his unfamiliarity with the offense and looming contract situation could make sticking with their incumbent options more appealing for Payton and Broncos general manager George Paton.
