Broncos QB Bo Nix Sends Clear Message After Disappointing Outcome

Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos got a 30-9 win over the San Francisco 49ers in Week 1 of the preseason, but their return to the practice field the following Tuesday did not go as well, and the second-year passer let it be known that “it starts” with him.

Nix spoke candidly during his appearance on “Up & Adams” alongside wide receiver Courtland Sutton.

His comments did not surprise Sutton at all.

“I like the narrative that we had a good practice, but I wasn’t necessarily too excited with it today,” Nix told Sutton, who was his No. 1 option last season, and Adams on August 12. “I felt like, starting from me, the energy could have been better today. But I just got to do my job better. And until it’s perfect, it’s not done well enough.

“We got a good football team. But we don’t want it to just be talk. We’re going to hear that enough. We want to go out there and actually be a good football team. So, it doesn’t happen by accident.”

Sutton said Nix’s comments were “spoken like a true starting quarterback” on several occasions during the Broncos duo’s joint interview.

Nix was rightfully displeased with his performance in Tuesday’s Broncos practice.

Bo Nix Praised for Taking Accountability After Broncos Practice

He was 6-for-11 for 31 yards in his limited action on Sunday. He followed that with a 2-interception day in his return to the practice field. It is a win for a vaunted Broncos defense, but Nix’s ability to keep the football out of harm’s way is typically a strength.

Nix earned praise for taking the lead on the Broncos needing to practice better.

“Love the accountability from Bo,” DNVR Broncos’ Zac Stevens posted on X on August 12 in reaction to the clip of Nix’s comments.

“There was some talk about Bo Nix not having the best of days at practice today…,” Sleeper Broncos posted on X on August 12. “Bo talked about it a bit here and took accountability for how things went [saluting emoji].

“QB1 = True Leader [100 emoji].”

A strong finish to the week in practice and showing in however many reps he receives against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 2 of the preseason could go a long way for Nix and the Broncos.

Bo Nix’s Connection With Courtland Sutton Gets Overshadowed

Reigning Defensive Player of the Year and Broncos star Pat Surtain II and fellow cornerback Ja’Quan McMillian both picked Nix off, the latter of which ended the session on Tuesday.

However, Nix drew praise for a completion to Sutton earlier that seemed to set the tone.

“Bo Nix somehow connected with Courtland Sutton for a 15-yard gain with Pat Surtain II in something coverage in 7on7,” Stevens posted on X on August 12. “Have no idea how it got through.”

Unfortunately for Nix and the Broncos’ offense, that momentum did not continue. Stevens called it a “tough practice” for Nix, who was pressured often by a “stout” defense.

Nix made “three good completions” in the final period, but “then Bo threw an INT” to McMillian.

Wednesday, which will be back in full pads, offers another opportunity for Nix and the Broncos’ starting offense to get back on track as they work themselves into form for the regular season opener against the Tennessee Titans.
