The Houston Texans are going to get the best of Bo Nix when they face the Denver Broncos in Week 9.
Like the Texans’ own QB, C.J. Stroud, Nix had a record-setting season for the Broncos. He led them to a 10-win season and their first playoff berth since 2015. This season, Nix ranks fourth in pass attempts, seventh in touchdown throws, and eighth in passing yards entering Week 9.
The Texans will have their hands full with the Broncos’ dynamic young QB.

Nix has completed 62.8% of his passes for 1,803 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions through eight games this season.
“They fly around. They do a really good job of attacking the football, making tackles in space. They’re a fast-flowing defense. They don’t do a whole lot, but they do what they do really well, and they’re very consistent at it. They have some key players that you definitely have to be aware of. Just good football players. They’ve done a really good job drafting, and they’ve built a good defense,” Nix told reporters on October 29.
“There’s definitely a little bit more that we got to bring. We got to execute at a higher level. They’re not going to give us much. So, we have to literally go out there and be aggressive and take the things that we’re going to be able to get. But they’re one of the top defenses for a reason. They do a good job of limiting you to points, and they force some turnovers. And so, we got to do a good job with the ball, and move the chains, and create some longer drives, and then score when we have the opportunity.”
Nix has been sacked 8 times, leading the league with the lowest sack rate among qualifying QBs entering Week 9. The Dallas Cowboys were unable to sack him at all in Week 8, but Nix absorbed sacks in three straight games before that.
He was sacked multiple times in two of those three contests.
However, while Nix has been sacked multiple times in 12 of his 25 career games, he has finished games clean eight times, so the Texans have their work cut out for them.
Sean Payton Praises DeMeco Ryans

Broncos head coach Sean Payton echoed Nix’s sentiments about the Texans’ defense, praising Houston’s head coach, DeMeco Ryans, in the process. Ryans was a rookie linebacker for the San Francisco 49ers when Payton was in his first year as the New Orleans Saints’ head coach.
“I think he’s done a great job. They’re extremely fast. Man, the edges, when you look at Danielle Hunter. And both of these edge players, with wide techniques, are problems. The secondary is extremely talented. We went through a week of watching film of one team. And then, they don’t – and I say this respectfully, it’s not [that] there’s a multitude of things. But the things they do, they do exceptionally well,” Payton told reporters on October 29.
“This nickel’s [Jalen Pitre] a great player. The corners [Derek Stingley Jr. and Kamari Lassiter]. It’s an entirely different look than what we were looking at a week ago. So, just finished talking about how games unfold, and each one can take on a new way. And so, we got to keep looking at the things that we can do to attack it. But they’re very well coached. They’re very talented. I think they’ve done a great job of building that defense through the draft, free agency, and DeMo’s put his … touches all over it.”
The Texans boast the NFL’s No. 1 scoring and overall defense, though they trail the league-leading Broncos (fifth in scoring and overall) in sacks.
