The Denver Broncos set out to revamp their ground game this offseason, and through three weeks, running back J.K. Dobbins is getting noticed for doing just that.
Dobbins signed with the Broncos late in the offseason. There was a long-standing interest between the two sides, though. He has shown why the Broncos kept their plans and interest in Dobbins close to the vest.
So much so that the league’s social media team highlighted him on a tackle-breaking play.
NFL Sends Message About Broncos RB J.K. Dobbins

Dobbins rushed for 83 yards and 1 touchdown on 11 carries in the Broncos’ 23-20 defeat at the collective hands of the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 3. The yardage set a new season high, as did his 7.5 yards per attempt.
Dobbins, who spent 2024 with the Chargers and signed a one-year, $2 million contract with the Broncos, caught a backwards pass from quarterback Bo Nix that counted as a run for his TD.
“JK wasn’t kidding around with this play,” the NFL’s handle on X posted on September 21.
“One-handed catch. Stiff arm. Touchdown,” the NFL said in another, higher angle of the scoring play. “JK Dobbins doing it all!”
His alma mater, Ohio State, shared the higher angle of the clip, which the Broncos initially posted, captioning it with “JK ALL DAY” four times over. The Broncos’ post said, “That’s how you start the second half!”
The score allowed the Broncos to go up 14-10 on the Chargers.

Dobbins also had one reception on two targets but did not gain any yardage on it. He shared the NFL’s post on his X handle, and he had several more telling thoughts about the Broncos’ narrow defeat to their AFC West rival.
For one, Dobbins made it clear that he does not believe Nix missed many, if any, opportunities on Sunday.
Nix himself said otherwise, including apparently on the sideline during the game.
“Nah, he ain’t miss no throws. He ain’t miss no throws. He played a great game. We got his back. I got his back. He’s a great quarterback. It’s a team game. We lost as a team. It’s not on him,” Dobbins told reporters on September 21. “I gotta make more plays for him, and that’s it. He ain’t made no bad throws. He just – it is what it is. We gotta make a play for him, even if it’s not a good-placed ball. Gotta make the play. That’s what it is.”
J.K. Dobbins Places Blame After Broncos’ Loss

Dobbins blamed the Broncos’ errors rather than citing anything their opponents have done to beat them in their two losses. In Week 3, the Broncos led the Chargers 20-13 early in the fourth quarter thanks to a Wil Lutz field goal.
The Broncos allowed 10 unanswered points, including another clutch kick from Cameron Dicker.
“That’s what the league is,” Dobbins said. “Most teams beat themselves. Most teams lose the game instead of the other team beating them.”
Dobbins, Nix, and the Broncos’ next opportunity to get in the win column will come in Week 4 against the Cincinnati Bengals. They lost 48-10 to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 3 and will not have quarterback Joe Burrow.
