The Denver Broncos‘ offense has been doing well to start the year, and has gotten them into pole position in the AFC West.
Yet, the passing offense is not quite competing at the same level as the rushing offense. The Broncos have the joint-3rd ranked rushing offense, kudos to JK Dobbins, Bo Nix and rookie, RJ Harvey, compared to just the 14th ranked passing offense, which ultimately has them as #9 in total offense.
Courtland Sutton is on track for another 1,000 yard season, having started the year with an impressive 536 yards in his first 8 games. Equally, Troy Franklin is coming out in his second year as a pro, having been drafted in the fourth round back in 2024, having managed 358 yards through the air and 4 touchdowns.
But beyond that, options are limited, especially now that former second round pick, Marvin Mims Jr. is in concussion protocol after last week’s victory against the Dallas Cowboys.
Broncos Proposed To Move For Rivals’ Top Wideout
So, Alex Kay of Bleacher Report, writing on Tuesday, put together a proposed trade package that would send division rivals, the Las Vegas Raiders‘ top wide receiver, Jakobi Meyers, to the Broncos in exchange for a third round pick.
“The Broncos are in desperate need of receiving help.” Kay writes.
“The team was already razor-thin at the position before Marvin Mims Jr. entered the concussion protocol during Denver’s big win over the Dallas Cowboys and can’t afford to let the trade deadline pass without adding a notable name to the receiving corps.
Kay also projects that despite Meyers’ lack of pedigree as a top-end, prime talent in the league, and the fact that he is not exactly a household name at the position, he could still quickly become a favorite of second year QB, Bo Nix.
Bo Nix Could Benefit From A Top-Tier Third WR Target
“Meyers may not be the biggest star up for grabs this week, but he’s a competent pass-catcher who represents a massive upgrade over Pat Bryant, the rookie third-rounder who will see his limited role greatly expanded if Mims or any other Denver starter misses time.”
“Meyers would instantly slot in as one of Bo Nix’s top targets. He would provide immense support to Troy Franklin and Courtland Sutton, the two wideouts tasked with much of the heavy lifting in Denver’s passing attack.”
And in exchange, Kay believes that Denver would need to give up a third round pick in 2026, followed by a seventh round pick in 2027.
A starting receiving corps of Franklin, Sutton and Meyers would be one of the more intriguing triple-threats in the league: none of them jump out as huge, immediate, stand-out dangers, but at the same time they are capable of taking over games and making big plays at big moments.
The team may be reluctant to send that much capital to a rival franchise, even if it is one who has been dysfunctional for as long as the Raiders have been, but for a roster that is now very much in the process of being ready to compete, it could be the right move for Sean Payton and his team.
