The NBA Summer League games are on, and over the next several days, teams will see their youngest and most promising players duke it out on the court. One of those players is Bronny James, the son of LeBron James, who, of course, is with the Los Angeles Lakers.
There was a ton of interest in Bronny’s game against the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday, July 10, largely because he would be going up against No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg. So, all eyes were on this game, and it’s safe to say that this matchup was the most anticipated of the entire NBA summer series.
While the Lakers fell to the Mavericks, there was still some very good news for Bronny in the matchup. His performance turned heads against Flagg and for all the right reasons.
Bronny James of the Los Angeles Lakers Gets Praise for NBA Summer League Performance
Everyone was watching Bronny and Flagg on Thursday, or at least pretty much everyone who is big into the NBA. In a piece published on Friday, July 11, for NBA Analysis, Bergas Agung gives his thoughts on Bronny’s performance and also shares what Lakers analyst Mike Bresnahan thinks.
Agung called Bronny’s showing a “tenacious defensive performance,” adding that “the young Lakers guard showed hustle and determination while guarding the generational talent.” He added that Bronny “showed a lot of promise in the area that he really wants to improve,” that area being defense.
Agung also quoted Bresnahan, who stated that “Bronny has a lot of confidence in the moments that matter most.” That combination of confidence and skill is priceless.
“I did like, Bronny taking that last shot, Lakers down, winding down eight seconds left, when he got the ball in his hands above the arc,” Bresnahan said. “He’s like, ‘This is my shot.’ He didn’t make it but the mindset, yeah, let’s win the game. I’m going to do this.”
Bronny Could Get More Playing Time With the Lakers
Bresnahan also said that he’s noticed a major physical development with Bronny since the Lakers’ season wrapped up earlier this year. “Talking to him last week, he’s a very confident young man, and he’s been working on stuff just in a few months since the Lakers season ended, and we saw a good glimpse of that,” he added. “You can tell there’s more strength there, and he’s played about 21-22 minutes.”
So, what has Bronny been working on during the offseason. Bresnahan says that he was “very, very upfront” and said that the thing he’s most working on is ‘Conditioning.’ So, maybe he’s expecting a bigger role for the Lakers, or at least hoping for a bigger role.”
Agung added that “if Bronny continues developing his defensive intensity while sharpening his shooting mechanics, he could earn more playing time alongside his father LeBron James next season.”
So, assuming that LeBron is back with the Lakers for the 2025-26 season, he could be playing alongside his son more, which he would obviously love. LeBron has made no secret of the fact that one of the biggest thrills of his life has been playing basketball alongside Bronny.
