Browns Address Jerry Jeudy’s Sideline Explosion on Shedeur Sanders

The Cleveland Browns addressed the heated sideline squabble between receiver Jerry Jeudy and Shedeur Sanders during Sunday’s loss 26-8 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

Sanders and Jeudy were seen reviewing a play on the sideline tablet when the two disagreed on what should have happened. A visibly animated Jeudy clapped his hands in frustration and appeared to repeat, “That’s wrong,” while Sanders tried to offer his perspective. The exchange escalated enough that center Ethan Pocic eventually stepped in to separate the pair.

It wasn’t the only tense moment between Jeudy and his rookie quarterback. Earlier in the game, Sanders narrowly missed Jeudy on a deep throw into the wind, leaving the pass just out of the receiver’s reach. Jeudy jogged back to the sideline shaking his head, clearly displeased.

Kevin Stefanski Says Browns Like ‘Family’

Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said the team is ready to move on and those type of things happen during a game — especially when a team is 3-9.

“Football is an emotional sport, and certainly when you’re a family like we are, you can have your disagreements,” Stefanski said. “Sometimes they’re for everybody to see. Sometimes it’s behind closed doors. But like a family, we move on, we talk about it, so not worried about it.

“When you have plays that you see things and you want to talk through it, but those come up every single game, truly. And sometimes it can be two offensive linemen who saw a play a little bit differently and you got to look at the tape and get on the same page. So that’s all it is.”

Browns QB Shedeur Sanders Looking for ‘Trust’ With Receivers

The game was just Sanders’ second start. He did not receive reps with the starting offense prior and he’s still looking to find his comfort level with his receivers.

“When we got in certain passing situations and field position, everything like that, it wasn’t the best,” Sanders said after the loss. “It wasn’t the best. It was a comfort level. I think as players and as teammates, we have to be able to gel with each other and be comfortable with each other in every situation. That takes time. It takes a lot of things. So this team is not going to be a microwave thing. We’re going to have sparks. We’re going to have here and there, but it’s going to take time to be able to develop that chemistry with everybody, to be on the same page with Jerry.”

Sanders also spoke specifically about his relationship with Jeudy and alluded to a lack of trust.

“You want to be able to get (Jeudy) the ball, but you’ve got to understand it’s going to take time. I’m more of a trust person and that’s just what it boils down to,” Sanders said. “So we have to spend time on task, with all those guys, and be able to trust and be able to see things at the same lens.”

The Browns will look to rebound this week when they host the Tennessee Titans.
