Browns Announce Bad Myles Garrett News Ahead of Finale

Cleveland Browns superstar pass-rusher Myles Garrett will not be 100% as he attempts to break the NFL single-season sack record against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 18.

Garrett was added to the Browns’ injury report on Thursday with a hip injury. He was a limited participant during practice. Garrett has remained relatively healthy this season. The only reason he’s been on the injury report in recent weeks was due to non-injury-related rest.

The extent of the hip issue is unknown at this point, but it’s unlikely it will keep him out of the Browns’ finale. Garrett enters Sunday’s matchup with 22 sacks, just a half-sack shy of the NFL single-season record jointly held by Michael Strahan and T.J. Watt. The Defensive Player of the Year favorite was held without a sack in the Browns’ Week 17 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, who devoted much of their game plan to neutralizing his impact.

“I mean, to an extent. I feel like they were more worried about keeping me away from Aaron [Rodgers] than getting the win, and I think that’s what came back to bite him,” Garrett said after the game.

Browns Defensive Coordinator: Myles Garrett on a Mission

After requesting a trade during the offseason in hopes of joining a contender, Myles Garrett ultimately recommitted to Cleveland, signing a four-year, $160 million contract extension with the Browns.

Rather than easing up after securing his future, Garrett has elevated his play even further, turning in one of the most impressive stretches of his career.

“He has really been on a mission. When he signed that contract and committed to coming back, he’s really been on a mission,” Browns defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz said. “He’s been very driven, he’s been trying to carry the load, he’s not afraid of the spotlight. He’s been a good leader for us, he’s played the run well. I know I bang that drum probably too many times, but I’m just really proud of the way that he plays the run and he’s been a wrecker on offense. And I just hope we can finish strong and set him up to have success in this game also.”

Browns, Myles Garrett Set to Face Joe Burrow

Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow knows he’ll be firmly in Myles Garrett’s sights on Sunday, but the Cincinnati passer isn’t planning to alter his approach to avoid becoming Garrett’s latest victim.

“Yeah, I’m certainly not going to overcompensate either way,” Burrow said. “I’m not going to go out of my way to not let him get the record. And I’m not going to go out of my way to let him get the record either. I’m going to go and play football.

“There’s going to be situations that a sack is the best of the bad outcomes of that play, and maybe I take one. And there’s going to be other situations where I’m about to get sacked, and I need to throw it away in that situation. Such a situational game that I don’t think you can go in thinking one way or the other. Every play is so different.”

Garrett notched two sacks against the Bengals when the teams faced off to open the year.
