The Cleveland Browns got some concerning news on star pass rusher Myles Garrett ahead of Week 7.
Garrett failed to record a tackle against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 6 and was looking to put that behind him this week. However, the star pass rusher wasn’t seen practicing during the portion that was open to the media on Wednesday.
“In addition to Browns players mentioned pre-practice, Myles Garrett wasn’t on field for portion of practice open to media. Still waiting on reason,” Browns reporter Scott Petrak wrote on X.
As Petrka noted, Garrett wasn’t listed on the injury report, so the star pass rusher not being at practice is a bit surprising.
It’s to be seen if Garrett will be available to play on Sunday when the Browns host the Miami Dolphins.
If Garrett does play, he will look to rebound from last week’s disappointment. But Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said that is due to the team getting the ball out quickly so Garrett can’t get to them.
“I think if you look, definitely over the last couple years, every team that plays us gets the ball out quickly. That’s by design, obviously, with Myles (Garrett) being on our roster. So, there’s ways that we try to mitigate that, with rush end coverage involved,” Stefanski said on Wednesday.
Garrett is Frustrated With Browns Losing
Garrett has spent his entire career with the Browns, and he’s growing frustrated with the losses.
Cleveland is off to a 1-5 start. Following the Browns’ 23-9 loss to the Steelers on the road, Garrett was clear on his thoughts on the constant losing.
“To lose the same way every time, it’s frustrating as hell,” Garrett said when asked if he’s frustrated with the constant losing.
Garrett was then asked if losing makes it hard to get up and play. He had a simple response.
“Yep,” Garrett replied.
Garrett did vent his frustration earlier this offseason when he requested a trade. The star pass rusher made it clear he wants to play for a winner and a chance at winning a Super Bowl.
“As a kid dreaming of the NFL, all I focused on was the ultimate goal of winning a Super Bowl — and that goal fuels me today more than ever,” Garrett wrote in his public trade demand posted on social media in February. “While I’ve loved calling this city my home, my desire to win and compete on the biggest stages won’t allow me to be complacent. The goal was never to go from Cleveland to Canton. It has always been to compete for and win a Super Bowl.”
The Browns selected Garrett first overall in 2017.
Analyst Rips Garrett’s Performance
Although Garrett was frustrated with another loss, he failed to record a tackle.
Following the game, ESPN Cleveland analyst Tony Rizzo blasted Garrett for his comments and for not being a true leader.
“I don’t feel sorry for Myles Garrett. Stop with this crap. He’s not a leader. He’s a hired gun, here for money, and he wanted to leave your city and team, end of story. Am I wrong?,” Rizzo said on ESPN Cleveland. “The ass kissing of this guy is insane.”
It was a bold comment from Rizzo, who isn’t pleased with Garrett or his play as of late.
