Browns Make $100 Million Franchise-Changing Announcement

The Cleveland Browns announced a major move for the franchise on Monday that will change its future forever.

Franchise owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam reached an agreement with the city to relocate from Huntington Bank Field in downtown Cleveland to Brook Park. And while the move is just 12 or so miles down the road (20-25 minutes by car), it represents a monumental shift for the franchise.

“BREAKING: The city of Cleveland and the #Browns have reached an agreement to allow the move to Brook Park,” Brad Stainbrook reported October 13. “Jimmy Haslam will pay $100 million, and all pending court cases will be dismissed. Coming to Brook Park in 2029.”

Not everyone in Cleveland is necessarily going to be on board with the move, which is now set in stone.

Notable area natives Travis Kelce, current Kansas City Chiefs tight end and fiancé of music icon Taylor Swift, and his brother Jason Kelce, former Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman and current ESPN broadcaster, both expressed displeasure with the notion of the Browns relocating out of the city center during an episode of their “New Heights” podcast that aired last spring.

“Something really stupid out in Brook Park that they’re trying to get everybody excited about — the stadium no longer being in downtown Cleveland,” Jason Kelce said. “I’m not a fan. I don’t know what you want me to say. I don’t like it. I’ll tell you what, though, it doesn’t matter how cool it is, I’m not going to like this. This thing looks sweet. I like the old stadium because it’s downtown. I’d rather play in a dilapidated stadium than this.”

Travis Kelce echoed his brother’s sentiment.

“There’s just something about taking the Rapids all the way downtown, and I’m sure they’ll have some sort of way that you could take the Rapids out to Brook Park from everywhere in Cleveland,” Travis Kelce said. “But it’s just such a unique feeling going downtown, feeling the excitement of everyone going down to the busiest part of the city and that atmosphere that it creates in Cleveland.”

Browns Roster Remains in Disarray Amid 1-5 Start to Season

Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson took to social media with a message on his return.

While some fans likely agree with the Kelce brothers, a bigger question than the location of the stadium may be who the franchise rosters to play inside it.

Cleveland is currently 1-5 and tied for the second-worst record in the entire NFL. The Browns are still paying Deshaun Watson on his $230 million albatross of a deal, as the staff sorts through two rookie quarterbacks in Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders to see if it has a franchise signal-caller among them.

As of Week 6, Cleveland was starting five of the seven rookies it drafted in 2025 and continuing to stack picks in 2026, when the team may decide to draft another first-year QB. The Browns own their own first-round selection and the one belonging to the Jacksonville Jaguars. The team also picked up to extra fifth-rounders via trades of Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett earlier this season.
