Browns Make Historic Myles Garrett Announcement During Ravens Game

Cleveland Browns superstar pass-rusher Myles Garrett made history on Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens.

Garrett took down Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson in the first quarter, notching his 12th sack of the season. With the sack, Garrett became the first player to notch 12 or more sacks in six straight seasons.

“Another day, another broken record,” the Browns wrote on X after the play.

Garrett entered the game as the favorite for Defensive Player of the Year. In addition to his gaudy sack numbers, he also leads the league with 17 tackles for loss.

Garrett is within striking distance of potentially setting the single-season sack record, which stands at 22.5, which is shared by Michael Strahan (2001) and T.J. Watt (2021). But Garrett said before the Ravens game that he’s not focused on individual stats or accolades. He wants to win.

“The main thing is winning. However, many I can get on the way to getting a win that’s more or less in the record. It doesn’t matter to me,” Garrett said. “I want to go out there and have a good game. I feel like that’s what I can do. That’s what they brought me here for, and I feel like that’s a way in which we can win. You know, me going in and taking over. So, all things come to fruition, and some of my personal goals happened, that’s great. But now I want to go and continue to play after January. That’s the biggest goal.”

Ravens Knew Challenege of Slowing Down Myles Garrett

Garrett is a player every team has to game-plan around. The Ravens, who see Garrett twice per year, knew his potential as a game wrecker entering the Week 11 matchup.

“You just try to get as many hands and objects on him as possible,” Jackson said. “The guy is leading the league in sacks right now, I believe, so [we need to] get as many guys to block him as possible, if anything.”

The respect was mutual between Jackson and Garrett, who called the Ravens’ dual-threat passer “the most dynamic quarterback we’ve ever seen.”

“They’ve got all kinds of different looks and you got to take the run game into account as well,” Garrett said. “You got to always be a bit on edge not to get too geared to play the pass, because at the end of the day you go a bit too far up field and Derrick Henry’s coming downhill, going north-south and that’s just a bad day for everybody. So I mean, all that to take into account with the most dynamic quarterback we’ve ever seen. It’s just all, it’s tough.”

Myles Garrett Setting Tone for Browns After 2-7 Start

The Browns entered Sunday with a 2-7 record and the team’s playoff hopes are already dim. But Garrett isn’t giving up and is doing his best to lead the team by example.

“It’s an everyday thing. You continue to have that standard. There’s no checking out, there’s no looking for somewhere to hide or surrendering. No, we still have a great opportunity to push ourselves in the playoffs if we do what we need to,” Garrett said. “If you win out, there’s a great possibility with how things have gone in the division that we could still be in this race, but you have to believe it. So just making sure the guys know and understand that, and I’m putting in that same work that with that same effort that we have from the very beginning of the year, you expect the guys to respond.”

The Browns have less than a 1% chance of making the postseason, per The Athletic. However, the team has some winnable games on its schedule after a tough opening slate, including matchups with the 2-7 Las Vegas Raiders and one-win Tennessee Titans.
