Browns’ Myles Garrett Breaks Silence on Injury Before Final Chance at Sack Record

Myles Garrett was limited for a second consecutive day with a hip injury but the Cleveland Browns‘ superstar pass-rusher doesn’t plan on sitting out against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Garrett is dealing with a hip injury that he said he’s been battling through for a chunk of the season. But he expects to suit up against the Bengals.

“Fine, just need it for one more,” Garrett said. “It’s been kind of up and down, but it’s fine.”

The Browns have nothing on the line in the final game of the season against the Cincinnati Bengals. But Garrett is chasing the NFL single-season sack record. He enters the matchup with 22 sacks, just a half-sack shy of tying the record. Garrett was held sackless last week but is confident he’ll be able to set the record.

“My confidence hasn’t wavered. I’m fully confident that it’ll come, so I’m fine,” Garrett said. “You don’t think about what’s going to go wrong in your life, do you? Just think about how to make it go well.”

Myles Garrett Sends Message to Bengals QB Joe Burrow

Garrett will be looking to take down a familiar foe for the record as he goes up against the Bengals’ offense and Joe Burrow. The Bengals quarterback said he doesn’t plan to do anything differently with Garrett one sack away from the record.

“I’m certainly not going to overcompensate either way. I’m not going to go out of my way to not let him get the record, and I’m not going to go out of my way to let him get the record either,” Burrow said.

“There are going to be situations that a sack is the best of the bad outcomes of that play, and maybe I take one and there’s going to be other situations that I’m about to get sacked and I need to throw it away in that situation. It’s such a situational game that I don’t think you can go in thinking one way or the other. Every play is so different.”

Garrett has sacked Burrow a dozen times. He’s not looking for a highlight reel takedown for the record.

“They all count. So, I don’t care if I run his (expletive) out of bounds,” Garrett said. “However he gets got, he gets got.”

Browns DE Myles Garrett Upset About the Result of Season

Garrett is set to win his second Defensive Player of the Year trophy and might put his name in the NFL record book. However, the Browns are still on the outside looking in on the playoffs. Garrett demanded a trade this offseason, citing he wanted to play for a contender. He ended up agreeing to a four-year, $160 million extension to remain with the Browns but is disappointed with how the season ended up.

“It’s not going well enough. We’re not going to the playoffs. So that’s the end-all, be-all,” Garrett said. “You want to have a chance to bring the team to the big dance and we didn’t do that.”

One thing that gives Garrett hope is the strong crop of rookies who came in. That includes defensive tackle Mason Graham and linebacker Carson Schwesinger, who is the favorite for Defensive Rookie of the Year.

“Some hope for the future for sure. I mean, almost all of them came in and had an immediate impact,” Garrett said. “Those guys looked really good and proud of how they developed and how eager they were to learn and be a part of the success moving forward.”
