Browns’ Myles Garrett Gets Honest Message From Bills Star After Loss

The Cleveland Browns gave the Buffalo Bills a real scare on Sunday, though they were narrowly defeated by a score of 23-20. Cleveland once again provided plenty of defensive resistance against a tough opponent, though it was ultimately all for naught.

Buffalo was able to contain Myles Garrett to just one tackle and half of a sack in their winning effort. Bills’ veteran offensive lineman Dion Dawkins, who was lined up against Garrett for most of the game, had nothing but the highest praise for Garrett after the game.

“Out job is to protect [Josh Allen],” Dawkins said. “I had Myles the whole game, so, I’m thankful that I’m able to compete, and I’m thankful that Myles is who he is to make us compete at a high level. I respect that guy, I really do. I’m telling him in the middle of the game that ‘I’m just proud of you man.’ We’re able to experience history in time.”

Dawkins and co. held Garrett to that singular sack, meaning he missed his chance to overtake Michael Strahan and T.J. Watt’s jointly held single season sack record. The record is 22.5; Garrett is sitting at 22 heading into the final two games of the season.

“Myles plays how he plays every week, like I don’t think he drops and goes up,” Dawkins said. “Myles plays like Myles every week and that’s why he’s in the position that he’s in.”

Dawkins Issues Respect Towards Browns’ Defense

Not only was Dawkins complimentary of Myles Garrett, but he had high praise for the Browns as a team despite their 3-12 record.

“Believe it or not, they’re actually a great team,” Dawkins said. “A lot of people thought it was going to be easy to come in here and just blow them out by 100, no the NFL doesn’t work like that. They played us all the way until the end. I tip my hat to those guys, they played us well, they played us hard… respect is respect.”

The Browns’ defense held MVP-candidate Josh Allen to just 130 yards in the air on 12 completions. Allen was only able to rush for 17 yards on seven attempts. It was the Bills run game that did most of the damage, as James Cook carried the ball for 117 yards and two touchdowns in the win.

Sanders Continues to Flash in Rookie Season

No one in Cleveland is happy with how this season has gone, but the silver lining remains the flashes of excellence that Shedeur Sanders has shown in his limited playing time.

In his six games this season, Sanders has thrown for 1,103 yards and six touchdowns, though he does have eight interceptions. His athleticism as a runner has been evident: he’s carried the ball 14 times for 123 yards and a touchdown, good for a clip of 8.79 yards per attempt.

The question is now beginning to turn to where the Browns go in the 2026 NFL Draft, where they’ll have a premium pick. If Cleveland believes it has it’s QB of the future in Sanders, maybe they’ll look to build around him with that first round selection. If not, then Fernando Mendoza or Dante Moore may be manning the helm next season in Ohio.
