Browns’ Myles Garrett Puts Teammates on Notice After Week 10 Loss

The Cleveland Browns fell to 2-7 with a loss to the lowly New York Jets on Sunday but superstar pass-rusher Myles Garrett is going to make sure the team doesn’t give up.

Despite Cleveland’s playoff hopes being all but erased after the loss. The Athletic gives the Browns less than a 1% chance to make the postseason. But Garrett isn’t letting anyone mail it in. With eight games still on the schedule, the All-Pro pass rusher made it clear he expects the locker room to stay locked in.

“I don’t care how you feel, you’ve got to suit up,” Garrett said. “It’s still an opportunity and still a chance. We still have what, eight more games. You never know what can happen. I’m going to make sure that there’s no quit in this team. I haven’t seen it before. It’s not going to happen now. So I’m going to make sure everybody mans up and still knows exactly what the directive is.”

Myles Garrett Embracing Leadership Role

Garrett has been open about expressing his frustration about the Browns’ struggles this season. And this offseason, he demanded a trade, saying he wanted to play for a contender before agreeing to a four-year, $160 million extension.

There are few flaws in Garrett’s game. The former No. 1 pick already has a Defensive Player of the Year award and multiple All-Pro honors to his name. But one area the Browns hoped to see growth in was leadership — and Garrett is embracing that responsibility head-on. He didn’t take a snap off during practice leading up to the Jets game.

“I always think actions speak louder than words. And as much as I say I’m committed and you can talk all day about that, but being out there every single rep and not taking one off, I don’t think a lot of guys do. I was just showing them that even at this year of my career, this stage of my career, I’m glad to do whatever it takes to get guys going in the same direction and pull them along with me.”

Myles Garrett Picks Up Teammate After Bonehead Play

The Browns had a chance to get the ball back late with a chance to tie the game against the Jets. But two costly penalties allowed the Jets to run out the clock. That included Cam Thomas jumping offside on a fourth-down play where the Jets were clearly not going to snap the ball, gifting New York the game-sealing first down.

Garrett consoled Thomas after the game. And while boneheaded, the star pass-rusher pointed out the Browns didn’t lose the game on that play.

“It’s frustrating,” Garrett said. “There are plenty of frustrating things to go around. I don’t want my guy Cam to lose confidence and think that he lost the game for us. That’s not the case. There were so many plays in the game and you can’t let one hang on you and take away your confidence in who you are as a player. This is a learning moment for him. He’ll have more opportunities to make the most out of it.”

Browns coach Kevin Stefanski echoed that sentiment.

“It’s never about one play,” he said. “We have to do our job, all of us, and in that moment, that’s very disappointing.”

The Browns have to regroup as they prepare to host the surging Baltimore Ravens in Week 11.
