The San Francisco 49ers extended their winning streak to three games with a 26-8 victory over the Cleveland Browns on November 30 at Huntington Bank Field.
Nonetheless, 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings is in the spotlight again for a potential player altercation as one Browns player accuses the Niners player of unsportsmanlike behavior.
When Maliek Collins suffered an injury, Jennings got into a heated exchange with members of the Browns’ defense. Jennings apparently made it personal, and the Browns weren’t happy about it, with Shelby Harris calling it out after the game.
“He’s a h–, and I want that known,” Harris said (h/t Camryn Justice of WEWS). “I see why he got punched in the [groin] because he said some things you should never say to another man. But I don’t respect it—saying that and then running behind your O-line is some real soft stuff, and I want that known. I see exactly why they punched him in the [groin]. I’m surprised nobody has punched him in the jaw yet.”
Jauan Jennings Has Another Incident With an NFL Player
This incident is the second time that an NFL player has taken issue with Jennings in less than a week. After the 49ers’ 20-9 win over the Carolina Panthers at Levi’s Stadium on November 24, Tre’von Moehrig and Jennings got into a postgame altercation.
With under three minutes left, Moehrig delivered a low blow to Jennings, prompting Jennings to respond as the players exchanged handshakes after the game.
On November 29, the NFL released its Gameday Accountability report, noting Jennings’ involvement in the Week 12 incident. The league fined the 49ers wideout $12,172 for unnecessary roughness at the 0:37 mark of the fourth quarter, categorized under striking, kicking, tripping, and kneeing.
Jennings didn’t hold back when asked whether the tension with Moehrig had been building throughout the game.
“Man, TV is going to tell you what happened,” Jennings told reporters after the win (h/t NBC Sports Bay Area). “I was just responding, to me, to some childish behavior. That’s all it was.
“It was just out of nowhere. Like I said, just the history of me playing ball. I play hard. I’m physically stronger than lot of DBs out there, so a lot of things happen in between the whistle, at least with me.”
49ers’ Jauan Jennings Gets Lighter Punishment
Moreover, Jennings drew the lighter penalty between the two, while the NFL suspended Moehrig for one game on November 25. ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported, citing a source, that Moehrig plans to appeal the suspension.
Schefter also noted that the appeal will be reviewed and decided by one of the hearing officers—Derrick Brooks, Ramon Foster, or Jordy Nelson—who are jointly appointed and paid by the NFL and NFLPA to handle on-field discipline appeals.
Following the game, Moehrig spoke with reporters to share his perspective on the incident.
“I mean, nothing ever dirty in my game has ever been like that unless it was earned, you know what I’m saying? I guess you could say,” Moehrig told reporters (h/t Carolina Blitz).
“… It just manifested. Like I said, [Jennings] wanted to do some stuff after the play talking crazy. So that’s all it is… We ain’t got to share all [the details about what happened during the game]. But I guess that’s really all it is to it. There’s nothing else to this.”
