If Shedeur Sanders wants to be the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns in the near future, there’s plenty that he has to hope goes right. However, some have suggested that Sanders won’t get the opportunity to be the Browns’ starter, with some even predicting that he could be traded during the offseason.Â
With five quarterbacks on the roster when Deshaun Watson is healthy, it wouldn’t be the most surprising thing to see the Browns move on from at least one quarterback.Â
Is Shedeur Sanders trade unlikely?
While it doesn’t seem likely that the Cleveland Browns would move on from Sanders, as he perhaps has the most potential among the group due to his age, injuries, and other factors, anything is possible. Sanders and the Browns recently saw that when he fell to the fifth round, a decision from other teams around the league that came as much of a surprise.Â
And the same was said by Sports Illustrated, which examined whether the Browns could trade Sanders.Â
However, SI doesn’t expect that to be the case, adding that there’s a better possibility of him being a starter for Cleveland in the near future.Â
âThe key for Sanders will be what Cleveland puts around him for the future. The Browns do not have a great supporting cast right now, particularly at the wide receiver position. Beyond Jerry Jeudy, there really isn’t much there. That’s why it really isn’t the best idea to throw him out there on Day 1.
âBut it seems very, very difficult to envision Cleveland moving Sanders unless the Browns receive an offer they absolutely cannot refuse. Shedeur Sanders will be in Cleveland for the foreseeable future, and he may ultimately becomes the Browns’ franchise quarterback,â Matthew Schmidt wrote.
Do Browns Want to Keep Shedeur Sanders?
Sanders has other things to worry about when it comes to being a starter for the Cleveland Browns.Â
Not only does he have limited weapons, as noted by Sports Illustrated, but some have also questioned his character. The last thing he wants is to be considered a cancer in the locker room or get in trouble off the field.Â
According to ESPN, that was the case on Tuesday. Sanders was cited by police on Tuesday morning for driving 101 mph, according to police records, per ESPN.Â
âCleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders was cited by police early Tuesday morning for driving 101 mph, according to police records. An officer for the Strongsville (Ohio) Police Department stopped Sanders at 12:24 a.m. for driving 41 mph over the posted 60 mph speed limit in his black Dodge TRX truck, according to records.
âSanders, 23, a projected first-round pick who was selected by the Browns after falling to the fifth round of this year’s draft, must either pay a $250 fine for the fourth-degree misdemeanor or fight the ticket in Strongsville Mayor’s Court on July 3,â ESPN wrote.
Only 23 years old, Sanders will make mistakes. However, this is something he needs to be cautious about moving forward. The lights are already bright on him, and the last thing he wants is to give more ammo to his doubters around the league.
