Browns Predicted to Replace Shedeur Sanders With 4,052-Yard Star

Suppose the Cleveland Browns have the first or second overall pick next season. In that case, there’s no debate that the team will likely take another quarterback, despite selecting Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel during the 2025 NFL draft.

The Browns need a franchise quarterback, and unless Sanders or Gabriel proves to be that, despite the team possibly struggling next year, it’d be unfair to the rest of the roster not to select a quarterback. There have been some interesting names that have popped up for the Browns, but the most recent one could be intriguing.

NFL Spin Zone recently predicted that the Browns would have the second overall pick and land on Garrett Nussmeier out of LSU.

“The Cleveland Browns have a lot of faith in the duo of Andrew Berry (GM) and Kevin Stefanski to lead this team out of the doldrums of the NFL, but how quickly is that going to happen after the Deshaun Watson disaster? Ownership in Cleveland has rightfully taken a lot of the blame for the Watson fiasco, which is going to cripple this franchise on the salary cap for years to come. But the Browns are in the process of moving on, and the next big step is going to be solidifying the quarterback position for the long haul,” they wrote.

“They have one of the most uninspiring quarterback battles currently taking place in the NFL with Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders. And they have a lot more needs than just the QB position. This is a pivotal year for the Browns to discover core players on their roster going forward.”

Will the Browns Have Options in the 2026 Draft?

Now, in the NFL Spin Zones draft, the Cleveland Browns wouldn’t have had an opportunity to select Arch Manning. Manning was not on the board, as they had the New Orleans Saints selecting Cade Klubnik out of Clemson with the first overall pick. When ESPN recently conducted its mock draft, one of its experts, Matt Miller, noted that he believes Manning will stay in college for the 2026 season. For the Browns and other interested teams, that obviously isn’t ideal.

“The Browns aren’t alone in having multiple Round 1 picks, as the Los Angeles Rams will also have two selections. Of course, a lot will change between now and when the 2026 draft starts next April in Pittsburgh. Prospects will move around draft boards, and some of these players will ultimately return to school for another year. One player you will not see in this mock draft is Texas quarterback Arch Manning; I still think he will stay in college for the 2026 season,” Miller wrote.

Will Nussmeier Be a Top Prospect in the 2026 Draft?

Nussmeier would be an intriguing option for the Cleveland Browns. There have been parts throughout his career at LSU where he’s shown to be an above-average quarterback, but he’s now going to be a fifth-year senior and has barely been a starter.

He threw 525 passes during the 2024 season, after throwing just 78 in 2023. He completed 64.2% of his passes last year, throwing for 4,052 yards and 29 touchdowns.

The Louisiana native arguably has the most to win or lose during this upcoming season, so let’s see if the Browns will have a look at him if things go as well as they can for him.
