Browns Predicted to Trade 3-Time Pro Bowler to NFC Contender

The Cleveland Browns are likely to be sellers ahead of the Nov. 4 trade deadline.

The Browns are off to a 2-5 start and do have some attractive pieces to deal ahead of the deadline. One player Cleveland could move is star offensive guard Wyatt Teller, who’s a three-time Pro Bowler.

NFL analyst Dan Wilkins of theScore proposed a deal that would see the Browns trade Teller to the Seattle Seahawks for a 2026 fifth-round pick.

“The Seahawks‘ passing attack has been outstanding this season, ranking eighth in EPA/dropback,” Wilkins wrote. “Sam Darnold taking his game to yet another level has been the driving force for that surprise production. The veteran signal-caller leads all qualified passers in explosive play percentage. The big-play offense would be even more difficult to defend if Seattle could find a way to complement those chunk throws with a more consistent run game.

“Efforts to change the tide in that regard should start up front. As the Seahawks are currently tied for 21st in yards before contact. The right guard position stands out as the most obvious spot to upgrade. And Teller would likely be a seamless fit. The Browns veteran, who’s twice been voted a second-team All-Pro, has plenty of experience in a zone-heavy run scheme. And as an impending free agent, the acquisition cost would pale in comparison to the potential value he could bring this dark horse team.”

Teller is in the final year of his four-year, $56.8 million deal, and given that he’s a pending free agent, the Browns could very well move him to get an asset back.

Wyatt Teller Confident in Browns Turnaround

Although Teller’s name has come up in trade rumors, he’s focused on helping the Browns win games.

Teller believes Cleveland has confidence in their group after their blowout win over the Miami Dolphins in Week 7.

“I feel like momentum can be compartmentalized into massive momentum swings in a game, personal momentum swings,” Teller said on Oct. 20. “I do believe that you can have team momentum where things are just running right, guys are playing complementary football. The past couple of weeks, even though two of those games we didn’t win, we’d been doing good things. So it was just time that something was going to pop and start working. And it did.

“That being said, we have a lot to work on and a lot to get better at. But the momentum of just doing little things right being identified and being able to communicate and stuff like that, all that comes with consistency.”

Teller and the Browns are set to go on the road to play the New England Patriots in Week 8.

Teller Named a Trade Candidate

With the NFL trade deadline looming, Teller’s name has come up in trade talks.

The Athletic’s Zac Jackson believes the Browns could look to move Teller to allow rookie Zak Zinter a chance to start down the stretch.

“It’s fair to wonder whether a sell-off would include Teller. Who could bring back at least a semi-significant return and open a starting spot for 2024 third-round pick Zak Zinter, who has been active for only one game this season. Teller is due to count about $10 million on next year’s cap if he’s not re-signed,” Jackson wrote.

Although the return likely wouldn’t be much, the Browns could trade him to open a spot for Zinter.
