Dillon Gabriel made his first NFL start on Sunday in London but his fiancée was unable to attend the landmark moment for the Cleveland Browns quarterback.
Gabriel’s fiancée, Zoe Caswell, remained back in Cleveland while Gabriel and the Browns made the trip to London to face the Vikings. She shared on social media that she stayed behind because she had to work.

Earlier in the week, in a separate video, Caswell shared that she had just started a new job at Sephora.
“I’ve lived (in Cleveland) for two months and I’m home alone a lot because he’s at practice. So I went and got a job at Sephora,” Caswell said. “I thought it would be fun to meet some people and co-workers outside of the football world.”
Gabriel also shared that his parents were not in attendance for his first start due to a passport issue.
“So fun fact, need to get my dad a passport. We’re learning about that,” Gabriel said ahead of the game after arriving in London. “Mom and Dad are from Hawaii. You can imagine that flight is even further than what we just did.”
Browns QB Dillon Gabriel Got Engaged Last Year While at Oregon
Caswell said she recently earned her master’s degree in business but has struggled to find long-term, in-person employment, partly due to Gabriel’s demanding schedule as an NFL quarterback. She acknowledged that the timing of her new job starting couldn’t have been worse.
“My luck and timing is so bad,” Caswell said. “I just don’t have it in me to tell my job on the first week of work that I’m going to miss all the days they scheduled me for and go to London.
“A lot of you would say, ‘Who cares, just go.’ Tell them it’s an emergency and you have to go. I don’t know — it was so last-minute. This would be my luck, though. My fiancé gets his start the week I start a job that technically I don’t need. Dillon has the means to support us both.”
As a third-round pick, Gabriel signed a four-year rookie contract with the Browns worth approximately $6.2 million.
Gabriel and Caswell have been together since high school in Hawaii, building a relationship that’s lasted through his multiple college stops. He proposed to Caswell in September 2024.
Browns QB Dillon Gabriel Shows Promise in Debut
The Browns turned to Gabriel for a spark and he showed promise in his first NFL action as the starter. He passed for 190 yards and two touchdowns in the 21-17 loss.
There’s room for improvement but Gabriel proved he’s capable of holding down the role.
“A lot of positives,” Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said on Monday. “Obviously can always better, and certainly we as an offense have to be better and score more to help this football team. But for a young player in that environment versus that defense to take care of the ball, make the plays he made, I thought was a lot of positives with plenty to clean up. And that’s what he will do. And that’s the mentality he has, certainly to be a player that continues to get better week in and week out.”
Gabriel’s second start will come this week against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He should have a larger contingent of fans for the AFC North clash, although it will be in hostile territory at Acrisure Stadium.
