Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders finally found his connection with Jerry Jeudy during a breakout game against the Tennessee Titans.
Sanders passed for 364 yards and accounted for four total touchdowns — three passing and one rushing — in the 31-29 loss. Jeudy had a solid outing in what has been a miserable year, snagging three of five targets for 76 yards and a score. His most notable play came in the first half, with Sanders finding him over the middle on a 60-yard strike.
“It was truly exciting to be able to connect with him. The season, in a lot of ways, hasn’t gone the way we want it to this year,” Sanders said. “The fact that one decision from me could bring so much joy in his life and be able to help the team out overall brings me happiness. Just being able to see clearly and do what I need. The staff and everybody helped me to get me prepared.”
Eight different players caught passes against the Titans, led by rookie tight end Harold Fannin. He caught eight passes for 114 yards with a touchdown. In the process, Fannin broke the Browns’ single-season record for receiving yards by a rookie tight end.
Browns QB Shedeur Sanders Had an Altercation With Jerry Jeudy
Sanders and Jeudy have had a contentious relationship since the rookie took over as the starter. The two were caught on camera in a heated argument last week on the sideline, eventually being separated by center Ethan Pocic.
Sanders declined to speak on the incident. Jeudy said the two talked and put it behind them.
“We spoke about it. We good,” Jeudy said with his arms crossed. “It was about a play. This is an emotional sport. Things like that happen in football.”
Jeudy said if he could go back, he would not have had the confrontation in public.
“I probably would have talked off-camera. That part I would have done differently. Of course, I’m going to speak my mind and say what I see out there. It’s football. Me and Shedeur are good. Stuff like that happens,” Jeudy said before talking aim at the media. “Y’all are going to make it different from what it is, because you’re the media. That’s what you all feed off — negativity. We move on from it. I live in real life. What happens in this locker room, this real. Not what’s going on with social media.”
After the touchdown pass against the Titans, Sanders found Jeudy and hugged him while exchanging a brief message.
Browns Take Shedeur Sanders Off Field for Game-Deciding Play
Sanders provided the big plays and was able to showcase his skill set against the Titans, even with a banged-up offensive line that was missing multiple starters. But with the game on the line with less than a minute left, the Browns took Sanders off the field for a crucial two-point conversion.
Instead, the Browns opted for a gadget play, attempting a reverse that didn’t quite reverse and ended with running back Quinshon Judkins throwing an incompletion.
“Not going to get into the specifics but did not go as we thought it would,” Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said. “We didn’t come through and it’s on me. I’m responsible for all of it.”
Sanders did not question the decision after the game.
“If I’m out there for any play, I wish I’d always have the ball in my hand. But sometimes you have to run the ball or kick a field goal,” Sanders said. “I would never go against what the call was.”
The Browns hit the road next week to face the Chicago Bears.
