Browns Quarterback Predicted to Request Trade Amid Latest Development

The Cleveland Browns have a quarterback problem. Even if Shedeur Sanders is as good as he looked in his first-ever game in the NFL during Week 1 of the preseason last week, the Browns still have plenty to figure out.

Sanders should likely get the nod at this point, given what he’s done throughout his career and coming out of college, despite falling to the fifth round, but Cleveland has five other quarterbacks on their roster. One is Kenny Pickett, whom the team signed during the offseason.

With all the issues that Pickett is now facing, mainly with Sanders and some other players outperforming him due to being on the sidelines with an injury, Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay believes he could be one of the next players to request a trade.

“The Cleveland Browns may have found their franchise passer. Although it’s far too early to truly tell if Shedeur Sanders is going to be the team’s long-term starting quarterback, his impressive preseason debut has him well-positioned to take the reins from projected QB1 Joe Flacco in the near future.

“Sanders’ rapid rise could lead to demotions for Cleveland’s other hopeful young signal-callers, including veteran Kenny Pickett… Pushing for a trade could be the Pittsburgh product’s best option. With injuries to the likes of Anthony Richardson and Matthew Stafford opening up opportunities around the league, teams desperate for a passer with starting experience might be willing to roll the dice on Pickett’s upside,” he wrote.

Does Kenny Pickett Want Out of Cleveland?

Requesting a trade would be an interesting idea for Pickett, as he isn’t good enough to have such a request. If anything, the Cleveland Browns could look to either get rid of him by releasing him or trying to trade him to another team for a late-round pick.

When he signed with the Browns during the offseason, he thought he’d have an opportunity to compete for a job, which is all he could ask for. Fast forward a few months, and with his injury, that might not be the case any longer.

“I’m excited to get back into [the AFC North] and I just think it’s a great opportunity to go compete,” Pickett said, per ESPN.

“I do view myself as a starter,” said Pickett, who holds a 15-10 record as a starter in the NFL… “All you want is an opportunity,” Pickett said.

“It doesn’t matter who else is in the room. All you can ask for is an opportunity, then you’ve got to go handle the rest.”

Are the Browns Counting on Kenny Pickett?

The expectation is for the Cleveland Browns to have Pickett healthy sometime soon. He’s been dealing with a hamstring injury that has limited him during practice, but according to the man himself, he’s starting to feel better. For the Browns, the healthier Pickett is, the more confusing things realistically get.

“I feel like I’m turning the corner a little bit this week which is really positive,” Pickett said. “I was able to run a little bit more than yesterday. I’m getting there. Taking it one day at a time.”
