The Cleveland Browns could very well be without running back Quinshon Judkins for the remainder of the season, after he sustained what appeared to be a very serious injury during the second quarter of the team’s game against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, December 21.
Judkins caught a pass in the backfield from quarterback Shedeur Sanders, after which the Bills linebacker Matt Milano tackled him almost immediately, wrapped Judkins up around his lower body.
Cameras caught Judkins slamming his fist into the turf while laying on the ground after the play. Team doctors soon surrounded him and subsequently called for the medical cart, which eventually ushered the rookie off the field and back into the locker room.
“The cart is coming out for #Browns RB Quinshon Judkins, down in pain after being tackled,” Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported via X.
The CBS broadcast team of Ian Eagle and JJ Watt went to commercial after the injury, then returned briefly saying that Judkins injury was “serious,” so much so that the network chose not to show a replay to the television audience. The game then went to commercial again while medical staff transported Judkins onto the cart.
Soon after play resumed, Eagle and Watt confirmed that Judkins suffered a right leg injury and is out for the game. Given the context and the official commentary from CBS, it is safe to assume that the rookie RB is out for the remainder of the year.
Fellow rookie rusher Dylan Sampson did suit up on Sunday due to hand and calf injuries, leaving rookie Raheim Sanders, the third-string running back, as the Browns’ top option for the second half.
The Bills took a 20-10 lead into the locker room.
