Cleveland Browns star Myles Garrett respects the Tennessee Titans but he knows he’s staring down a matchup he can sink his teeth into.
Garrett enters Week 14 with a league-leading 19 sacks, just four shy of breaking the single-season record (22.5). He’ll line up against a Tennessee offensive line that has surrendered an NFL-high 48 sacks, setting the stage for a matchup that could tilt heavily in his favor.
The Browns‘ star has been on a tear, recording 14 sacks over his last five games. Still, Garrett stressed that chasing history means nothing without doing the groundwork to get there. His focus is still on winning.
“I mean, I’ll go for four, but I respect that team over there and what they can do,” Garrett said. “So, I’ve got to make sure we stop the run and earn four opportunities, in which I can make that happen.”
Even with the record within reach, Garrett isn’t treating the matchup like anything other than business.
“I lick my chops against anybody. So, it’s no different here,” he said.
Browns DE Myles Garrett Going After Cam Ward
The target in Garrett’s sights is rookie quarterback Cam Ward. It’s been a rough year for the No. 1 overall pick. He’s passed for 2,351 yards, seven touchdowns and six interceptions this season. His QBR of 31.8 ranks 30th in the NFL.
“He’s just got to take his time to experience the flow of the game and the pace of the game and try to analyze things, and I think that’s just kind of leading to what it is now,” Garrett said of Ward. “He’s talented, he’s a playmaker, and he has great arm talent. The game’s got to slow down a little bit more for him, and I think it will.”
The Browns will counter with a rookie of their own in Shedeur Sanders. The two quarterbacks know each other well, and Sanders has a chance to knock off the No. 1 pick after falling to the fifth round. Still, he’s not interested in framing the matchup as anything more than another opportunity to improve.
“I’m just excited for the chance to go out there and play,” Sanders said. “Last week’s showing wasn’t the best, so just having the opportunity to go out there and play… I think it’s nothing extra within myself.”
Browns’ Myles Garrett Has Sack Target in Mind
Garrett isn’t eyeing the sack record — he’s aiming to blow past it. The Browns star made it clear last week, revealing the number he’s been chasing and even marking it on his tape for motivation.
“I set that goal three years ago for myself. I had a dream. I had that written on my tape and I was going to get 25,” Garrett said. “I feel like that was just meant to be.”
If he reaches that milestone, he doesn’t plan to stop or celebrate for long.
“Well, after 25, I’m just going to write something else,” Garett said.
Garrett and the Browns enter the matchup with the Titans as a 4.5-point home favorite. Tennessee has lost its last seven games.
