Wide receiver Jerry Jeudy brushed aside speculation surrounding Kevin Stefanski’s future, offering firm support for his head coach as the Cleveland Browns prepare for their regular-season finale.
Rumors have circulated in recent weeks about Stefanski’s job status amid another disappointing season, but Jeudy said those conversations have not seeped into the locker room.
“We don’t focus on it basically. We ignore all the outside stuff because 99% of it is wrong,” Jeudy said. “We just focus on what’s in the locker room.”
Jeudy credited Stefanski for maintaining a steady approach regardless of circumstances, a trait he said resonates with players.
“He’s been the same coach since I’ve been here, through the ups and downs. He never changed and always stays consistent,” Jeudy said. “That’s all you can ask for from a coach.”
When asked directly whether he wants Stefanski to remain in Cleveland, Jeudy’s response was immediate.
“Yeah, of course,” Jeudy said with a laugh. “You want me to say no? That’s crazy.”
Shedeur Sanders Also Backs Kevin Stefanski
Stefanski also received public support from his quarterback, Shedeur Sanders. Their relationship has been the subject of outside speculation, with some suggesting Stefanski has hindered the development of the fifth-round pick. Sanders, however, made it clear his stance is rooted in respect.
“He’s our coach. We view him the same as we did the first week. We got the utmost respect for him,” Sanders said. “I mean, half of us don’t know if we gonna be here next year, you know what I’m saying? We don’t really look at that. We play for the franchise, we play for our coaches, we play for the names on the front and back of our jersey. So, it’s more than just like stuff that’s just online.”
Stefanski is a two-time coach of the year. However, he has just seven wins over the past two seasons combined and an overall record of 44-56.
Jeudy on Browns QB Shedeur Sanders: ‘Don’t Know His Future’
Another relationship that has been under the microscope in Cleveland is between Jeudy and Sanders. The two had a sideline blowup earlier this season but appear to be building trust and chemistry.
“Repetition plays a big factor in this whole thing. Us getting consistent reps with each other throughout the season,” Jeudy said. “I don’t know what his future. But what he is doing right now is good.”
For Jeudy personally, it’s been a tough season. After being named a Pro Bowler last season, he’s caught just 48 passes for 585 yards and two touchdowns this season.
“I learned a lot of things this year. Patience and controlling what I can control,” Jeudy said. “Don’t let anything you can’t control affect your mood or how you go about your business.”
The Browns may have little at stake in Week 18 against the Cincinnati Bengals, but a strong finish against a division rival could help set the tone for next season.
“You want to finish the season with a win, of course,” Jeudy said. “Builds up a lot of momentum going into next year. We want to finish up strong.”
