Browns WR Jerry Jeudy Sends Clear Message on Shedeur Sanders After Announcement

Cleveland Browns receiver Jerry Jeudy made his feelings clear on the team’s move to name Shedeur Sanders the starting quarterback for the rest of the season.

Sanders became the Browns’ third starting quarterback when he took over in Week 12. Cleveland head coach Kevin Stefanski announced this week that Sanders will start the final four games of the season.

“It’s good to have one guy you can create that chemistry with,” Jeudy said. “It’s a good time to consistently learn and build together. He’s consistently growing and doing his thing, so kudos to him.”

Jeudy is coming off his best game with Sanders as the starter. He caught three passes for 76 yards, with most of that coming on a 60-yard pass in the first half of a 31-29 loss to the Tennessee Titans.

“It was a great throw. He had to anticipate the window. He threw an accurate pass, hit me on the run and I did the rest,” Jeudy said of his second touchdown of the season.

While Jeudy didn’t gush over Sanders, he had a lot of positive things to say about rookie tight end Harold Fannin.

“He’s a tight end that knows how to do it all. He’s a rookie, but he don’t really seem like a rookie by the way he understands the game and plays,” Jeudy said.

Fannin leads the Browns this season with 59 catches for 619 yards and four touchdowns.

Browns WR Jerry Jeudy Explained Sideline Arguement With Shedeur Sanders

It hasn’t been smooth sailing for Jeudy this season. He’s having a rought year, notching just 38 receptions for 497 yards and two touchdowns through 13 games.

Jeudy’s emotions drew attention during Week 13 after broadcast cameras showed him animatedly discussing a miscommunication with Sanders on the bench. He explained himself about his attitude in a recent social media post.

“If you see emotion, it’s because I care. If you see fire, it’s because I believe. I’m far from perfect but I’m locked in on becoming better every day,” Jeudy said in the post, which featured photos both on and off the field. “The journey ain’t always smooth, but it’s worth it.”

Shedeur Sanders Eyeing Long-Term Role With Browns

With four starts still ahead of him, Sanders has a genuine opportunity to earn a long-term role in Cleveland. He understands what’s at stake, but he’s committed to keeping his focus narrow.

“Yeah, that’s a long, deep thought,” Sanders said when asked about his future. “That’s not in my focus. My focus right now is the team we’re playing ahead, the (Chicago) Bears. Anything past that, I’m not really focused on, honestly. I’m thankful for it, but I’m not content with my situation. We’re leading this team.”

Through his first stretch of action, Sanders has shown a level of upside and poise well beyond what’s typically expected from a fifth-round pick. If his steady growth continues, he could complicate Cleveland’s offseason plans. The Browns hold two first-rounders in next year’s draft and are widely expected to consider taking a quarterback — unless Sanders convinces them the answer is already on the roster.
