Bruins’ Newcomer Lights Lamp In Second Game With Team

The Boston Bruins are back in action tonight in the second game of the 2025 preseason. They dropped the preseason opener Sunday evening at home in a 5-2 loss to the Washington Capitals. But the team bounced back in their second game making the short trip down to the Big Apple to take on the New York Rangers in Madison Square Garden.

The B’s got on the board first with newcomer Matej Blumel striking in the opening 10 minutes, tucking a cross-crease lead pass from Casey Mittlestadt into the near corner from the low slot.

This is a promising sign from the 25-year-old who received an $875,000 contract in mid July.

He struggled in game one, posting a -3 in nearly 18 minutes of ice time.

David Pastrnak Played With Blumel In Czech Republic

It’s always a good sign when the best player on your team has rapport with the players on the roster. As is the case for the young sniper Blumel, who captain-hopeful David Pastrnak has skated with in their home country of the Czech Republic.

“You forgot that he’s a pretty good skater too,” Pastrnak said to a swarm of reporters at his locker. “That’s unbelievable. He’s very smart. He works hard. He’s got a little bit of everything. It’s amazing to watch him. Hopefully, he can settle himself in. It’s never easy coming to a new city. That’s why it’s good for me and (Pavel Zacha) to try to be here for him and make sure we give him the best opportunity, the best confidence to succeed.”

The two competed alongside one another in the 2022 World Championships where they won a bronze medal for Czechia. It was their country’s first in a decade, and Blumel lit up the score board potting four goals and assisting on four more in just ten games.

“He was a big part of that group and played first line,” Pastrnak continued. “So, very good player and he’s a very good human being. He wants to learn. He comes every day with questions and knows he’s able to ask me anything. And I try to help him out.

“It’s great that we have him here. This is the way I was treated when I got here when I was young, by the older guys and by the countrymen. So just trying to do the same.”

Matej Blumel Is A Goal Scoring Machine

Blumel comes to Boston by way of the Dallas Stars but he spent most of his time last season down in the AHL where he lead the entire league in goals scored. He netted 39 goals in the season’s 67 games. This comes off the heels of a 30 goal season the year prior for Texas.

The Bruins are hoping to be the team to finally unlock his goal scoring potential at the next level and making their sub-one-million dollar investment payoff.

He is off to a hot start in training camp and the goal in tonight’s losing effort in New York City further cements the young winger as a lock to make the Bruins opening day roster.
