The Boston Bruins made a flurry of moves during NHL Free Agency this summer. Tanner Jeannot signed a five-year contract that did receive some backlash. Boston traded for Viktor Arvidsson in a deal with the Edmonton Oilers. And overall, they added a ton of forward depth to their organization.
It’s hard to blame Boston for their approach to this offseason, at least to some extent. The Bruins had a massively disappointing 2024-25 campaign. And it led to them missing the Stanley Cup Playoffs. As things stand, this roster is in need of a major retooling. Going after big fish in NHL Free Agency didn’t make much sense.
At the same time, Boston peculiarly avoided addressing one of its major needs. The Bruins struggled to score goals during the 2024-25 campaign. In fact, only three players managed to score 20+ goals. One of those players, Brad Marchand, was traded midseason.
NHL Free Agency is rather quiet at this point in the summer. In saying this, there are scoring options still available on the market. As the calendar prepares to flip to August, the Bruins should take a long look at signing former Vegas Golden Knights winger Victor Olofsson.
What Victor Olofsson Brings to the Ice

Ethan Miller/Getty ImagesVictor Olofsson could provide the Boston Bruins needed scoring depth.
Olofsson joined the Golden Knights last season after spending the first six years of his career with the Buffalo Sabres. He did well in the Sin City, scoring 15 goals and 29 points in 56 games. Olofsson did especially well on the power play, scoring six of his 15 goals with the man advantage.
The 29-year-old has historically performed well on the power play. He has recorded six or more power-play goals in six of the last seven seasons. This includes scoring 11 goals on the man advantage during his first full NHL season in 2019-20.
Overall, he can sling the puck. Olofsson owns a career shooting percentage of 13.5%. He shot around this mark (13.8%) with the Golden Knights in 2024-25.
The Bruins wouldn’t only be getting a goal scorer, though. Olofsson proved his worth as a two-way player, as well. In fact, he had the highest Defensive Goals Above Replacement among Vegas forwards in 2024-25, according to Evolving Hockey.
Where the fit with the Bruins may fall apart is his physicality. Olofsson does not play with that much of an edge. Moreover, he isn’t great in transition. And there are concerns about his trajectory after seeing his production decline in the last two seasons.
Boston could add a very good goal scorer at a bargain price. In saying this, there are some things that could turn the Bruins away. At this point, though, it’s worth at least a look.
Bruins Need More Top Nine Competition
Boston added a lot of players this offseason. And they have some returning faces who could win roster spots. In saying this, Olofsson could push everyone and make this group more competitive.
Olofsson can push for middle-six time alongside Arvidsson, Jeannot, and Pavel Zacha. It’s going to be a tough battle, with the likes of Casey Mittelstadt, Matt Poitras, and Mark Kastelic competing for spots. However, this a path to a roster spot here for Olofsson.
The Bruins need to score more goals in 2025-26. If they don’t, they will likely miss the Stanley Cup Playoffs again. Pursuing Olofsson would give them a desperately needed scoring option on the wings.
