Bruno Fernandes was left upset and frustrated despite Manchester United’s impressive draw at Liverpool on Sunday, wondering why the Red Devils cannot produce that level of performance every week.
The Red Devils upset the odds to turn around their woeful recent form and pick up a 2-2 draw at Anfield.
Lisandro Martinez was the surprise first goal-scorer as he put the visitors ahead on 52 minutes.
Things looked to be going wrong for Ruben Amorim’s side as Cody Gakpo equalised and then Mohamed Salah put the Reds ahead from the penalty spot.
However, Amad Diallo netted with 10 minutes to play and secure an encouraging point for the struggling Old Trafford giants.
Fernandes was really pleased with how his team performed, but having come into the game 14th in the table and after three straight defeats, he wondered where this kind of performance has been.
‘Obviously we’ve been criticised and fairly,’ Fernandes told Sky Sports. ‘The position in the table says it all, we’ve lost too many points, even today we can’t be happy with a draw because we need points more than they need them.

‘Obviously I think it’s a really good result and we could have even won the game at the end. But I think it’s a fair result, I think, both teams played really good football, intense.
‘Some good chances from both sides but we can’t be satisfied, to be honest, I’m pretty upset because if we show this today at Anfield against Liverpool that is first in the league, that is probably the outstanding team in the Premier League this season. Why can’t we do this every week?
‘It frustrates me because finally I did a proper performance overall and I think we need to be aware that we need much more from ourselves to get something from this season. We need to put some pride out because it isn’t enough for us.’
The Manchester United captain suggested that Manchester United’s struggles have simply been down to a lack of effort, saying he is already worried about how his teammates might perform when they host Southampton on Thursday.

‘We need to get this standard every game,’ he said. ‘I wasn’t worried about everyone putting in effort today because it’s Liverpool, everyone’s going to try and do their best.
‘I will probably be more worried about Southampton after this performance that we think was already good enough and it’s not because it’s going to be a really tough one again.
‘At the end of the day you need to put your effort in and that’s why we got something from this game today.
‘You can’t stop here. I think we have to bring this frustration to the next games. In a good way to understand that this is our level, if we can do it at Anfield today we have to do it every week.’
Red Devils legend Roy Keane agreed with the Portugal international’s sentiments, saying it is now a question of repeating a solid display.
‘It was a surprise to me,’ Keane said of the impressive display. ‘Bruno said there, they turned up, showed a bit of passion.
‘I don’t want to take away from United today, but do that in the other games. You can’t just pick and choose when you want to turn up for a game at Man United. The key is to turn up for every game and play with that passion and quality.’
