Bryson DeChambeau Sends Rory McIlroy Warning Ahead of Ryder Cup

If Bryson DeChambeau is yapping at Rory McIlroy during the Ryder Cup, the latter can’t say the former didn’t warn him.

Both players will play prominent roles for their respective teams at Bethpage Black on Long Island in late September. Team USA captain Keegan Bradley has already confirmed DeChambeau will be on the team as a captain’s pick. McIlroy, of course, will get in on points for Team Europe as the face of the defending champions.

DeChambeau and McIlroy have also built a nice little rivalry in the last couple of years. DeChambeau won the 2024 U.S. Open at Pinehurst, taking advantage of a couple of brutal missed putts down the stretch from McIlroy.

McIlroy got his revenge on the LIV star a few months later. The two played together in the final pairing at the Masters. The wheels fell off for DeChambeau. McIlroy, meanwhile, kept it just on the rails enough to get into a playoff with Justin Rose, beating his Team Europe teammate to win the Masters and secure the grand slam.

During that final round, McIlroy insisted on staying focused, so much so that DeChambeau remarked about how McIlroy wouldn’t talk to him over their 18 holes together. If he gets another chance to spend a Sunday with McIlroy at the Ryder Cup, DeChambeau says he’ll make his presence known.

Bryson Ready to Trash Talk Rory at 2025 Ryder Cup

“I’ll be chirping in his ear this time,” DeChambeau told People at the “Happy Gilmore 2” premiere. “Now, if we go up against each other, I mean, you can be sure of it. I’ll get into his ear a little bit.”

A couple of weeks earlier, DeChambeau made it clear he wants a piece of McIlroy.

“I would that (to keep the rivalry going),” DeChambeau told The Mirror prior to The Open Championship in Northern Ireland. “We’ll keep battling it out. Hopefully, we come to Sundays a lot more often, like we did at the masters this year. The PGA was great, too. I gave it a run, but I’d love to have more battles with Rory and Scottie (Scheffler).”

Ultimately, DeChambeau didn’t get his wish. A disastrous Thursday at Royal Portrush cost him a chance at contention. He bounced back nicely, though, making the cut and going low on the weekend to finish inside the top 10. Scheffler, meanwhile, ran away with the tournament to win his first Open and get within one win of the career grand slam.

Team USA Slight Favorites to Win 2025 Ryder Cup

DeChambeau and Scheffler will go into the Ryder Cup as the Americans’ top two players. There are still some questions about how the rest of the Team USA is filled out. The biggest debate is whether Bradley would make himself a playing captain.

The Americans are slight -145 favorites to win the Ryder Cup, per DraftKings Sportsbook. The Americans are trying to get back on track after an embarrassing five-point loss in 2023 at Marco Simone Golf Club in Rome. Team USA will have an undeniable home-course advantage in New York. The home team hasn’t lost a Ryder Cup since 2012 when Europe shocked the golf world with the Miracle at Medinah.
