Buccaneers Provide Update on Coach Skip Peete After Scary Incident

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been battling injuries all season long, and they were dealt another worrisome update on star running back Bucky Irving on Wednesday. Irving is dealing with foot and ankle injuries ahead of Week 5, and he was recently spotted on crutches while wearing a protective boot, which seemingly has thrown his status for the team’s upcoming game in doubt.

That wasn’t the only incident that took place for the Bucs in their running back room on Wednesday, though. During practice, running backs coach Skip Peete experienced a “medical episode” that required the attention of the team’s medical staff. In the wake of the scary situation, Tampa Bay provided an update on Peete’s status.

Buccaneers Issue Update on Skip Peete’s Status

Peete has been working as a football coach since 1988, when he was a graduate assistant for the Pittsburgh Panthers. Peete would spend time working with the Michigan State Spartans, Rutgers Scarlet Knights, and UCLA Bruins in the world of college football before making the jump to the NFL in 1998.

Since then, Peete has worked exclusively as a running backs coach, spending time with the Oakland Raiders, the Dallas Cowboys (on two separate occasions), the Chicago Bears, the Los Angeles Rams, and the Bucs. Peete has been with Tampa Bay since 2023, and he’s helped turn the team’s running back room into one of the best in the league.

The details surrounding Peete’s scary incident have been relatively scarce, as it was labeled an “unknown medical episode” by the medical personnel who provided help to the ailing coach. The Buccaneers provided a brief update on Peete’s status, saying he was in stable condition before presumably being taken to a hospital to have more work done on him.

During this morning’s walk-through practice, running backs coach Skip Peete experienced a medical episode,” the Buccaneers wrote in an official statement on X. “He was attended to by team medical personnel and was responsive, coherent, and in stable condition prior to being transported off site for further medical evaluations. Additional updates will be provided as they become available.”

Peete’s health and well-being are obviously more important than football, and while it sounds like he’s doing alright, the team and its fans will be hoping for more good news in the near future. In the meantime, the Buccaneers have to continue preparing for their upcoming action in Week 5 while keeping tabs on Peete.

Tampa Bay suffered its first loss of the season in Week 4, as a late rally against the Philadelphia Eagles fell just short. The Bucs will now turn their attention towards their Week 5 clash with the Seattle Seahawks, who also sport a 3-1 record. Kickoff for this game is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoon, and while the team may not have Peete on the sidelines for this game, there’s no doubt they will be motivated to pick up a win for him in this one.
