As the calendar turns to 2026, the Atlanta Braves would like to put the 2025 season and year behind them. There’s almost no way that the Braves can go through what they did in 2025 in terms of injuries, bad beats on many losses, and managerial turnover.
Walt Weiss is now the new head of the Braves’ clubhouse, and president of baseball operations, Alex Anthopoulos, is doing everything he can to put the Braves in the best possible position to win this upcoming season. Atlanta has already been fairly active in free agency, but the market has gone quiet, and with top free agents still available like Kyle Tucker and Cody Bellinger, division foes like the New York Mets and other NL contenders may swoop in and land a big star, which might diminish the Braves’ offseason to this point.

Do the Braves Have One More Big Free Agent Signing in Them?
The Braves have been one of the more aggressive teams thus far in MLB’s hot stove season. They are bringing back closer Raisel Iglesias, and have signed Robert Suarez, Mike Yastrzemski, and Ha-Seong Kim.
But do the Braves have one more big free agent signing in them? To answer that question, the term “big” must be defined. Atlanta likely won’t sign another outfielder, and the signing of Ha-Seong Kim likely takes them out of the Bo Bichette sweepstakes, but there’s still a lot of value left out there.

Undoubtedly, the Braves’ biggest need this offseason is starting pitching. After two consecutive seasons of major pitching injuries to key members of the rotation, nobody would blame Atlanta’s losses solely on injuries in 2026 if the Braves do not bring in another starter.

Who Could the Braves Consider Signing?
The Braves have quietly been linked as a potential landing spot for former Phillies starter Ranger Suarez, but he’s likely the second-best arm available in free agency, and would certainly come at a steep cost.
Other options that the Braves would be able to afford include Chris Bassitt, Zac Gallen, Zack Littell, and Patrick Corbin.
Bassitt and Gallen might be the most expensive of that list of names, but they would both be cheaper than Suarez. Atlanta doesn’t necessarily need a frontline starter, as they already have Chris Sale and Spencer Schwellenbach, but adding an innings-eater would be impactful, as Anthopoulos has gone on the record of saying the Braves need to add another arm.
There are seven weeks until MLB Spring Training, and still a lot of time for the Braves’ front office to make another move.
They could even consider making a trade for a starter as well, if they do not truly like any of the arms available in free agency. Some of those potential names include Mitch Keller, MacKenzie Gore, and Pablo Lopez.
This final stretch from New Year to Spring Training will be very important to see where the Braves stack up in a tough National League next season.
