Carlos Alcaraz vs. Andrey Rublev, Cincinnati Open Preview, H2H & Odds

Quarterfinal action at the Cincinnati Open will continue on Friday with a highly anticipated showdown between Carlos Alcaraz and Andrey Rublev.

Alcaraz is heading into the match fresh off a dominant win over Luca Nardi in the Round of 16 on Thursday, a performance the world No. 2 feels was his best of the tournament so far.

After a first-round bye, Alcaraz went three sets with Damir Dzumhur, following up a dominant 6-1 first set with a horrendous second set that he lost 6-2. In the third, however, Alcaraz seemed to find his rhythm, creating some momentum that he rode into his Round of 32 match against Hamed Medjedovic days later.

Now, as Alcaraz looks to continue his run to the finals, where he hopes to dethrone defending champion Jannik Sinner, he collides with world No. 11 Andrey Rublev.

On the flip side, after a first-round bye, Rublev picked up a second-round win over 2024 Next-Gen Finalist Learner Tien in straight sets, before then defeating 2024 ATP Masters 1000 Canada winner Alexei Popyrin, who was fresh off a deep Toronto run, in the Round of 32.

Prior to today’s match, Rublev coasted past world No. 71 Francisco Comesana in the Round of 16, 6-2, 6-3.

Both players are in pursuit of their first Cincinnati Open title, with Alcaraz suffering an early exit last year following a finals appearance in 2023.  On the flip side, after making the finals in 2021, Rublev has yet to make it past the quarterfinals in Cincy.

With both players in form, Friday’s match should produce fireworks.
