Tenth-year Boston Celtics wing Jaylen Brown feels he’s the best player in the NBA, claiming to be superior to Nikola Jokic, Shai-Gilgeous Alexander, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Luka Doncic and every other marquee name in the league.
“I don’t care who you say right now, ain’t nobody doing it better than me right now,” Brown said on his Twitch stream, via X account Legion Hoops.
Brown, the 2024 NBA Finals MVP, may very well be the best two-way player in the game right now, even though his overall offensive skillset may not compare to the aforementioned players. In December, Brown has averaged 32.4 points, 7.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists on impressive 52/42/81 shooting splits, making a strong case to be named Eastern Conference Player of the Month. Most importantly, the C’s have gone 5-2 in games with him this month, with Brown being a +30 on the floor.
Jaylen Brown Calls Out Haters
Playing without Jayson Tatum for the first time since his rookie season, Brown has averaged career-highs in points (29.4), assists (4.9) and field goal attempts (21.5), asserting himself as the primary offensive weapon for Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla. All the more impressive is that Brown has led the Celtics to an 18-11 start and third seed in the East, after many wrote off a Tatum-less Boston squad.
Brown addressed his detractors during the same Twitch stream.
“I’ve been embracing a villain this season,” Brown said, via NESN’s Tyler Maher.
“There was a lot of people waiting for me to fall on my face this season… they had the tweets loaded, ready for me to fail, (they) still waiting on it. And I’m just gonna tell them, keep waiting.”
Favorite Season of Career
Interestingly, Brown named the 2025-26 campaign the favorite season of his 10-year career due to the adversity he and the Celtics had to overcome. After Brown entered the league, the Celtics made the Eastern Conference Finals in three of his first four seasons, and another three times through the 2023-24 campaign, including two Finals trips.
As such, the Celtics have always been expected to be a contender for a top-3 seed throughout Brown’s tenure. That expectation changed entering this season, giving Brown more reason to be proud of his team’s 29-game start.
“I think this has been my favorite season so far,” Brown said earlier this week, via WEEI’s Justin Turpin.
“Being able to get an opportunity to lead a group of guys who, some of us, we have some championship experience, but we have five or six new guys who haven’t really played NBA basketball, and now we look like one of the better teams in the league. That’s a credit to our coaching staff and our leadership.”
The Celtics (18-11) won’t play on Christmas Day for the first time since 2015, incidentally the year before Jaylen Brown was drafted. If Tatum returns before the playoffs, the Celtics are regarded by many as the favorites to reach the NBA Finals. In fact, they’re also predicted to finish the season with the No. 1 seed, via Polymarket.
