Celtics Owner Appears to Take Jab at Warriors Fanbase

The Golden State Warriors entered the 2025-26 NBA season on a 565-straight streak of selling out their home games. There’s no denying that Warriors’ fans are among the most passionate in the NBA, but Boston Celtics owner Bill Chisholm seemingly took a shot at the fanbase.

In an appearance on the White Noise Podcast with Derrick White, Chisholm appeared to take a subtle jab at the passion of fans in the Bay Area. He shared his observation from his years of living in California.

“I love the slogan, ‘It’s different here,’ because if you don’t live here or you didn’t grow up here, I don’t think people understand,” Chisholm said, via NBC Sports Bay Area. “I’ve spent a lot of time in California and the Warriors are great. I don’t like the Warriors, but the Warriors for people that live there are great.”

The billionaire further explained that Warriors fans have more to do in between games compared to how diehard the fans are in Boston.

“But people go to the game, they go home and they have their dinner. The Warriors win [or] lose, yeah, it’s fine. There’s other things. You go to the beach, you go up to Tahoe. The Celtics lose and people are depressed. … People really internalize it here.”

The Bay Area and Beantown are two of the best sports cities in the country, with a total of 13 major teams between them.

Warriors Beat Celtics in 2022 NBA Finals

While the Warriors and Celtics were never big rivals, they faced each other in an intense NBA Finals series in 2022. Golden State was the underdog team at the time because they had an aging roster compared to a Celtics squad led by Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

After Boston took a 2-1 series lead, Steph Curry took over to lead the Warriors to their fourth NBA championship since 2015. Curry won his first NBA Finals MVP trophy after averaging 31.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.0 steals in six games.

Luckily for the Celtics, they managed to turn things around two years later when they lifted their 18th NBA title after beating the Dallas Mavericks in the 2024 NBA Finals.

Former Celtics Player Joined Golden State This Offseason

One of the major signings for the Warriors in the offseason was veteran big man Al Horford, who was part of the Celtics team in the 2022 NBA Finals. Horford contemplated retiring before signing a two-year, $11.7 million contract with a player option for the 2026-27 season.

But why did Horford choose Golden State?

“There was two things there,” Horford told The Athletic back in October. “I think the financial part was a component, but more than that, it was the winning part of it, trying to contend for a championship.”

However, Horford’s stint with the Warriors hasn’t panned out yet. He’s averaging 5.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 13 games this season. He’s missed games because of injury and has only started one contest.

At nearly 40 years old, he’ll likely play a bigger role in the playoffs rather than the regular season, if Golden State makes it.
