Cesc Fabregas has suggested that Como would consider a €40 million (£34.7m) bid from Manchester United for Assane Diao.

The 19-year-old joined Como in a €12m (£10.4m) deal from Real Betis in the January transfer window and has made an immediate impact, scoring six goals in 12 Serie A appearances so far.

United scouts reportedly attended Como’s 1-1 draw with Empoli last month in order to get a closer look on Diao, while Liverpool and Newcastle United have also been linked with a move for the versatile attacker.

Fabregas, who is Como’s head coach, says the Italian club have a clear pathway for Diao and insists it is ‘not a given’ that the Senegal international will be move on in the summer transfer window.

‘We are trying to go for young, talented players who were not playing – they do well here and obviously their value increases,’ Fabregas said.

‘There is no mentality of speculating and selling, they come here to grow and improve the team.

‘Then obviously, Manchester [United] can come and ask for Diao by offering €40 million, but it is not a given that he will leave.

‘The objective is to create a path, with players who are functional to the characteristics, working with them. Obviously the value increases but the important thing is that they are the right players for us.’

Speaking about his decision to join Como, Diao said in February: ‘I spoke with Fabregas, who explained the project, the vision, and what he had in mind for me and for the proper development of the team.

‘Speaking directly with him was very important; after that conversation, I had no more doubts and chose Como.

‘But I think that anyone who has had the chance to watch a match has been impressed by the style of play, and that in itself generates a lot of interest.’
