The Los Angeles Chargers have made a trade for a player on the defensive line, a month before the trade deadline in early November, with the Bolts trading for Baltimore Ravens EDGE rusher Odafe Oweh.
Los Angeles is adding Oweh, who only has 10 tackles this season, while being tied for the fifth-most sacks in the league with 14.
The Chargers will trade safety Alohi Gilman and a 2026 fifth-round pick in exchange for Oweh and a 2027 seventh-round pick.
Oweh had his career high in sacks in the 2024-25 season with the Ravens, logging 10 sacks. The pass rusher also had 39 tackles and 23 hits on opposing quarterbacks.
In his first three seasons in the NFL, Oweh logged 13 sacks, including two seasons with five sacks each for Baltimore. Now, Oweh looks to return to taking down quarterbacks in the City of Angels.

Odafe Oweh has not recorded a single sack this season for the 1-4 Baltimore Ravens, but not all the blame can be put on Oweh, as the Ravens have only recorded six sacks so far, one of the lowest in the league.
The Ravens were considered among the preseason Super Bowl contenders. Now, Oweh finds himself on a playoff contender with the Chargers.
On the Chargers’ defensive side of the ball now, Oweh has the opportunity to learn from the nine-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman Khalil Mack.
With the five-time All-Pro now under the wing of Mack, Oweh can return his game to the 2024-25 season and could find more sacks under the Bolts’ defense — Mack is currently dealing with an injured elbow, with snaps going to other EDGE rushers.
Oweh brings much-needed edge depth to the Chargers for both the short and (potentially) the long term,” Chargers editorial director Eric Smith wrote for the team website. ”
It’s worth noting that Oweh is slated to be a free agent in 2026… But credit [general manager Joe] Hortiz and his staff for potentially looking ahead and bringing in a player who could be a key long-term piece for the Bolts’ defense.”
Oweh will need to get acclimated to defensive coordinator Jesse Minters’ scheme before getting a good amount of snaps with the Bolts.
Earning Snaps

As mentioned, the Los Angeles Chargers are tied for the fifth-most sacks in the league, with four of those sacks coming from third-year player Tuli Tuipulotu.
The other EDGE rushers/linebackers make up for the 4.5 sacks, with the rest of the sacks coming from defensive tackles of members of the secondary.
Needing more pressure from the outside (aside from Tuli), adding a former 10-sack edge player will be beneficial, given the Chargers‘ lack of Khalil Mack availability.
If Jesse Minter, the coaching staff and guidance of veteran players can develop Oweh and help the defender return to the player who logged 10 sacks as he did the previous season.
