he 2025 NFL season is right around the corner which also means that for fans of the game, it is time for fantasy football. Each and every year, millions of Americans draft a fantasy team with the hopes of earning bragging rights amongst their peers. The talent in the NFL this season is once again endless, giving fantasy football players a lot of intriguing options.
For the Los Angeles Chargers, a revamped roster features many big names that the franchise hope can guide them back to the playoffs for the second straight season. Among those names is Chargers rookie first round pick, Omarion Hampton, who joins the backfield to provide another weapon for quarterback Justin Herbert. And with all the hype surrounding Hampton’s upcoming rookie season, fantasy insiders are very high on him this season, with Fantasy Sports On SI listing Hampton as a breakout player for the Chargers.
Hampton’s Fantasy Football Outlook
The Chargers signed former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris to a one-year deal this offseason, but Hampton is still in line for a big role on offense in his rookie season. Harris is dealing with an eye injury that has kept him out of practice, allowing Hampton to get all of the first team reps. Combine that with the fact that he brings a unique style of play and you get a player that could prove himself early on.
“Hampton’s big back profile (6’0” and 220 lbs.) and favorable speed (4.46 40-yard dash) will be an attractive combination for success in the NFL,” Fantasy Sports On SI writer, Shawn Childs, said. “Hampton brings a smooth-running style with multiple gears to his game: power, acceleration, and vision. He is more than a one-dimensional banger with an inside profile. When given an open window at the line of scrimmage, Hampton will glide through to the second level of defense, where his strength creates more yards after contact. His goal line value is a given, and he should offer a high floor in the passing game.”
Drafting rookies early always comes with a risk, but given how talented Hampton is and how the Chargers plan to use him, he could prove to be a very good value pick in any league.
Hampton’s Track Record of Success
Since his early days at North Carolina, it was evident that Hampton had it in him to be a star. A rotational piece in the backfield for the Tar Heels as a true freshman, Hampton won the starting job as a sophomore and broke out as one of the best runners in the country. During the 2023 season, he carried the ball 253 times for 1,504 yards and 15 touchdowns, earning First-team All-American and First-team All-ACC honors.
As a junior in 2024, Hampton once again showed why he was among the best running backs in the country, carrying the ball a career high of 281 times for 1,660 yards and 15 touchdowns in 12 games, earning First-team All-American and First-team All-ACC honors once again. Now a part of one of the NFL’s best offenses, Hampton will look to prove that he was the missing piece to the Chargers’ Super Bowl aspirations.
