The Los Angeles Chargers are off to a 2-0 start in the 2025 season with quarterback Justin Herbert leading the team.
Herbert is currently third in the league in passing yards (560), tied for third in touchdown passes (5), third in passing yards per game (280) and has the second-highest passer rating (127.8). The former Oregon Duck has also been a threat with his feet, with 63 rushing yards, the second highest on the team.
The NFL website released its latest quarterback rankings with Week 2 in the books and has Herbert jumping up two spots to the 4th best QB. Here’s what Nick Shook had to say about the Chargers player:
“Justin Herbert has quickly boosted his reputation among the general NFL population through two weeks, authoring two excellent performances in front of national audiences. He’s used both his cannon for an arm and his legs to keep this offense moving and is very clearly on the same page as Keenan Allen, who has fleshed out Los Angeles’ receiving corps. The pair are a dangerous matchup for any defense.”
The Bolts were able to start the season with two wins against divisional opponents, putting them in the front seat for the AFC West title. The last time a team other than the Kansas City Chiefs won the division was in the 2015 season. The last time the Chargers won the division was back in 2009.
If Justin Herbert can continue to have these performances, he could help the Chargers win the division and possibly the number one seed.
Chargers Head Coach Bold Promise For Justin Herbert

Part of Justin Herbert’s success early in the season is due to a promise made by his head coach, Jim Harbaugh.
The former College Football Playoff National Champion coach mentioned that he wanted to get his starting quarterback into the NFL Hall of Fame.
“I woke up the other day and said, ‘I got to get Justin Herbert to the Hall of Fame. Must get Justin Herbert to the Hall of Fame,’ ” Harbaugh told the Rich Eisen Show last week, via the Chargers website. “It’s one of those things you wake up at 3:30, 4 in the morning. Sometimes, that’s when your best ideas come.”
“You kind of process that, that would mean winning a couple of Super Bowls and a lot of people would benefit from that. That’s a worthy goal…”
CBS Sports has mentioned that Herbert is currently MVP material after two weeks. If Herbert continues to help the Chargers win titles and he racks up his individual awards, the Charger player could be included in the Hall of Fame.
Rest Of The Season To Go

While Justin Herbert has certainly put his name in the MVP conversation so far, there are still 15 more games left in the season and the playoffs if the Chargers make it that far.
Herbert can cool down or enter a bad stretch before gaining momentum again.
Other QBs also have their name in the MVP discussion, including last season’s winner, Josh Allen, and two-time winner Lamar Jackson.
The Bolts quarterback is off to a good start, but has to maintain his performance for another 15 games.
