Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin has requested to be traded after failing to receive a contract extension with the team.
The receiver was looking for an AAV of at least $30 million from the Commanders but was unable to. As a result, the WR has requested a trade.
CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin listed the Los Angeles Chargers as a landing spot for the 29-year-old receiver.
“Maybe McLaurin timed his trade request so one of the Hall of Fame Game teams really takes notice? Jim Harbaugh has prioritized old-school toughness in building the Bolts, adding not one but two bruising running backs in Omarion Hampton and Najee Harris this offseason,” Benjamin wrote.
“What better way to finish constructing a firm infrastructure for Justin Herbert than by reeling in a legitimate field-stretcher to pair with route-running extraordinaire Ladd McConkey, especially with Mike Williams retiring before his second Los Angeles stint could even begin? The Chargers still have in excess of $30 million in remaining cap space going into 2025.”
McLaurin will become 30 years old near the beginning of the season, which is a concern for Washington and is partly why they decided not to give McLaurin the contract.
The Commanders are not expected to trade McLaurin.
Terry McLaurin Reinforces Receiver Room

The Bolts have McConkey as the number one at the position group currently, but adding a two-time Pro Bowler will seal the team with one of the best 1-2 wide receivers in the league.
Wide receiver Quentin Johnston saw a notable improvement for the Bolts, but not as significant as the team had hoped for.
McLaurin would provide instant impact to the offense and give another big-time target to Justin Herbert.
McConkey could draw two defenders and let McLaurin run away with one player on him and vice versa. The two receivers could draw attention from defenders, leaving other receiving threats to get open for Herbert, allowing the offense to move down the field.
McLaurin could help develop the Ladd and other WRs on the roster and help create a dominant room for the Bolts.
Trade Package for the Wide Receiver

“Scary” Terry McLaurin led the Washington Commanders in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns last season. The 2024-25 All-Pro recorded 1,096 and 13 TDs with rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels throwing the ball to him.
With how McLaurin is an important piece to the Commanders’ offense, the team would need to ask for a high package in exchange.
Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton created a trade package for the Chargers to receive the Commanders’ wide receiver. The package for the star wide receiver would see the Bolts give up their 2026 second-round pick, WR Quentin Johnston and offensive lineman Zion Johnson.
In all of the trades listed in the story, they all require a second-round pick and a receiver in exchange for McLaurin.
If the Bolts were unwilling to give up Johnston, the team could move the 2025 third-round pick receiver Tre Harris.
