The Los Angeles Chargers surprised a lot of folks in 2024, but their season came to a tough end when they were bounced out of the playoffs in the wild card round by the Houston Texans. One of the big points of focus this offseason involved the Chargers getting star quarterback Justin Herbert more help on offense, and while they have succeeded in that quest to a point, there are still moves that could be made before the start of the new year.
While Ladd McConkey established himself as the team’s No. 1 wide receiver, help was still needed elsewhere. That led Los Angeles to reunite with Mike Williams in free agency and select Tre Harris in the second round of the 2025 NFL draft. The team could still use help at tight end, though, and with the Atlanta Falcons reportedly willing to listen to trade offers for Kyle Pitts, let’s check out a trade pitch that would pair him up with Herbert in Los Angeles.
Chargers’ Kyle Pitts Trade Pitch
Chargers receive: Kyle Pitts
Falcons receive: 2026 third-round pick
The Falcons selected Pitts with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft with hopes that he could become the focal point of their offense for the long-term future. While he earned a Pro Bowl selection as a rookie, he hasn’t come close to matching those numbers over the past three seasons. With guys like Drake London and Bijan Robinson emerging as the leaders on offense, that has made Pitts somewhat expendable.
The 2025 season is an important one for Pitts. He’s entering the final year of his rookie contract, and while Atlanta exercised his fifth-year option, the fact that they are listening to trade offers for him doesn’t make it seem likely they will be looking to extend him. Rather than potentially losing him for nothing in free agency, the team could opt to move him ahead of the upcoming campaign.
There’s no doubt that the Chargers have gotten Herbert some help this offseason, but tight end is still a bit of a dead spot for them. Will Dissly emerged from out of nowhere to have a solid season last year (50 receptions, 481 yards, two touchdowns), but his emergence was really only due to Herbert having limited options elsewhere. L.A. also signed Tyler Conklin to a one-year, $3 million deal in free agency, but he doesn’t exactly move the needle either.
Trading for Pitts is a bit of a risk considering how he only caught 47 passes for 602 yards and four touchdowns last season, but if the Chargers look to get him more involved on offense than the Falcons have, they could help him realize his potential. A 2026 third-round pick may be a bit pricey, but it could be a price Los Angeles is willing to pay.
Would Chargers, Falcons Be Interested in This Kyle Pitts Trade?

GettyAtlanta Falcons tight end is on the trade block.
Atlanta is reportedly looking for a Day 2 pick in exchange for Pitts, so if L.A. were willing to send over their 2026 third rounder, they’d likely be willing to consider it at the very least. It’s not the same as getting back the first rounder they used on Pitts, but considering how he may end up leaving for nothing this offseason, it’s better than nothing.
On the other hand, the Chargers could use a player like Pitts to round out their offense. Yes, they have Dissly and Conklin, but Pitts still has the potential to be a transcendent playmaker. A third-round pick may be steep, but if Los Angeles puts together a strong 2025 season, it would fall towards the end of the round. With that in mind, this could be a deal that both parties are interested in.
