Chargers Turn Heads After Revealing ‘Best Uniforms’ in NFL

The first snap of the NFL season has yet to be played, but the Los Angeles Chargers are already claiming a major victory over the league. On July 15, the Bolts unveiled two alternate jerseys with an accompanying post captioned, “The best got better. Again.”

Dubbed “Charger Power” and “Super Chargers,” the colorful new uniforms add to a jersey rotation that consistently tops rankings and fan polls. In the eyes of star safety Derwin James Jr., there’s no debate. “I feel like the Chargers have the best uniforms,” he said. “There’s just something about the powder blue, the white, the gold. And after these new alternates drop, it won’t be close.”

President of Business Operations A.G. Spanos pushed the praise a step further, saying: “We take pride in the fact that the Chargers are widely considered to have the best uniforms in the NFL; some even argue in all of sports.”

In the lead-up to the release, the Chargers posted a video featuring notable NFL figures who received a sneak peek of the jerseys. Team legends like LaDainian Tomlinson, Antonio Gates, and Shawne Merriman, media members like Adam Schefter, Colin Cowherd, and Ian Rapoport, and multiple current players were all wowed by the designs. Even coach Jim Harbaugh, notoriously uninterested in fashion trends, called the uniforms “fire.”

A Tribute to Chargers History

Despite the seemingly brand-new threads, the alternate uniforms pay homage to iconic eras in Chargers history.

Charger Power entails bright gold jerseys and matching pants, complemented by the team’s signature white helmets. They will debut in Week 7 at home against the Indianapolis Colts. The look is inspired by a team nickname popularized in the 1970s and 1980s. The Chargers were located in San Diego at the time and helmed by Hall of Fame QB Dan Fouts.

“Charger Power was real, it wasn’t just a slogan on a T-shirt,” Fouts said. “That stadium was absolutely alive every time we took the field. We had to calm everyone down, they were so excited.”

The all-navy Super Chargers jerseys are a throwback to a more recent period in team history. It’s a modern take on jerseys worn by greats like Rodney Harrison, Junior Seau, LaDainian Tomlinson, and Philip Rivers during the 1990s and 2000s.

“It’s a Seau-type of feeling,” said current linebacker Daiyan Henley. “We’re trying to tap back into those legends. It’s a nod to them and a nod to the past. I want to do right by this jersey.”

Fans will get their first look at the Super Chargers jerseys in Week 8 against the Vikings and a second look in Week 13 against the division rival Raiders.

The final portion of LA’s uniform reveal is the addition of powder blue pants. After primarily wearing white, navy blue, and gold pants since revamping their uniforms in 2020, the Bolts will incorporate powder blue pants with their current home and away jerseys.

A Sign of New Things to Come

Chargers fans hope the team will see other changes in 2025, beyond just their uniforms. The Bolts are seeking their first playoff win in the Justin Herbert era; their last postseason victory came in the 2018 season with Philip Rivers at QB.

Following last year’s 11-6 campaign, the Chargers’ offseason focus was improving the offense. The team signed o-linemen Mekhi Becton and Andre James, as well as veteran RB Najee Harris, to gear up for Harbaugh’s run-heavy scheme. They also spent their first two draft picks on skill players Omarion Hampton and Tre Harris.

With new offensive weapons to match their fresh on-field appearance, the 2025 Chargers will look to notch a long-awaited playoff victory in style.
