Chelsea secured a 5-1 victory over Ajax in the Champions League on Wednesday night to move up to 11th in the competition’s league phase.
Enzo Maresca heavily rotated his team from Saturday’s Premier League win over Nottingham Forest by making ten changes to his starting line-up.
Romeo Lavia was the only player to keep his place with Enzo Fernandez returning from injury to partner him in midfield, while Filip Jorgensen started in goal and Moises Caicedo was named at right-back.

Really should’ve kept out Wout Weghorst’s goal from the penalty spot, diving the right way but letting the ball slip underneath him. He didn’t have much to do other than that.
Moises Caicedo – 8
Caicedo’s long-range deflected strike doubled Chelsea’s lead. Didn’t look out of place in defence despite normally operating in midfield. He was given a rest early into the second half.
Wesley Fofana – 7
Provided the assist for Chelsea’s opening goal. He had a much better game overall than fellow centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo.
Tosin Adarabioyo – 5
Really struggled in the opening 45 minutes. Stupidly stood on Raul Moro’s foot to give away a penalty and was booked. Hauled off at half time.
Jorrel Hato – 7
Very quiet first half – but looked much better after the break. He’s got the makings of a top class player.
Enzo Fernandez – 9
Chelsea’s best player. Controlled the midfield with a fine performance and impressive range of passing. Won Chelsea’s first penalty, which he then scored to put them back in control. It’s a shame he was rested for the second half.
Romeo Lavia – 7
Ajax’s Oscar Gloukh was seen getting the better of Lavia in the early exchanges. Pretty good performance overall – but Fernandez had a significantly better game than him.
Facundo Buonanotte – 6
Struggled to make an impact, especially when compared to Chelsea’s other attacking players. Probably Chelsea’s worst player in the first half, along with Tosin. Improved in the second half, though.
Estevao Willian – 8
A true joy to watch this evening and another one of Chelsea’s best players, winning his side a penalty and then scoring it with an unstoppable effort. Could’ve scored a few. Pointless booking in the second half, though, for a lunging challenge on Lucas Rosa – so he’s losing a point for that.
Jamie Gittens – 8
His best performance in a Chelsea shirt to date. Displayed an outrageous piece of skill by controlling a cross-field pass from Fernandez with his back. He was brilliant tonight – providing the assist for Caicedo with a square ball that teed him up. His passing and crossing was superb.
Marc Guiu – 8
Some great runs behind the Ajax defence. He was in the right place at the right time to give Chelsea the lead. Replaced at half time, which felt a little harsh.
Tyrique George – 8
Scored three minutes after coming on at half-time and was a constant threat. Enzo Maresca will be delighted with the young man – who very much took his chance.
The other substitutes – Reggie Walsh, Trevoh Chalobah, Josh Acheampong and Andrey Santos didn’t look bad either. They all score 7/10, for me.
